Johnny Depp trial – live: Amber Heard accuses actor of sex assault as he call ex-wife ‘compulsive liar’

Johnny Depp’s sister says she doesn’t remember texting actor about 2014 drinking and drug use

Under cross examination, Christi Dembrowski, was asked by Heard’s lawyers if she had become aware that Depp “was using drugs and alcohol excessively” while the couple were together.

“I had become aware that he was drinking, and when they were dating I became aware of a certain medication, yes,” she said. “I dont know that I said excessively, but that he was drinking.”

Ben Rottenborn then asked her if she “knew he was using cocaine?”

“I never saw him use anything like that. I became aware of people saying that,” she replied.

And the lawyer asked if she had told her brother to stop using the drug.

“I dont know that I remember telling him to stop using cocaine, I remember telling him that anything he was doing he should stop doing,” she told the court.

The jury was then shown a text message from 25 February 2014, which Heard’s lawyers say she told her brother to stop “drinking” and using “coke” and “pills.”

“I wrote the words,” she told the court.

She was asked if she wrote them after Depp had been “on a bender reccently.”

She said she did not recall writing the message “or anything about it necessarily.”

“I was probably not joking, maybe I was repeating something that someone else had told me,” she suggested.

“You were telling him to stop drinking, cocaine and pills as you believed he had a problem,” said Mr Rottenborn.

Ms Dembrowski said she had not witnessed “benders” and “did not know what was happening at that time, I do not recall anything about that time.”

“I know what the words are but I do not know what the contexts are,” she said.

She was then asked if she was “worried” about her brothers use of alcohol, drugs and pills. “I don’t know,” she answered.

She was asked if the “did not love” her brother’s behaviour in the days leading up to 25 February 2014. “I do not recall anyone’s behaviour in 2014, I do not recall February 2014,” she said.

She was then shown other texts between her and Amber Heard in 2014 about Depp’s behaviour at that time.

“I remember this period and what Amber was believing he was doing,” she said.

“I still dont recall having a severe worry at around this time. I have had worries over the years but I do not recall having it. To be honest, she would write thigns or explain things quite often and it was a bit more dramatic maybe than what we understood it to be, or even the instances were different from what she was describing,” she said.

She was again asked if she “did not love” her brother’s behaviour in February 2014, and denied witnessing anything that others had claimed seeing.

“What I had heard from her in these texts, I did not really love where life was at this time,” she said.

She was asked why she ahd writeen “where are the kids?” in a text message and if she was concerned about the impact on the chidlren of Depp’s alcohol and drug use.

She was then asked why she had written “worry about everything” in a text to Heard, and explained she was “worried about what life was.”

“What was going on in life was Mr Depp’s drug and alcohol abuse, correct?” the lawyer asked.

“What was going on in life was someone constantly pointing out some sort of drug and alcohol abuse,” she said, but admitted it was “not unfair at all” for Heard to point it out.

She added that Heard’s claims had been “exaggerated.”
