Katy Perry is called a ‘hypocrite’ for prochoice tweet after supporting Rick Caruso for mayor of LA

Katy Perry was called out for supporting Rick Caruso, who previously funded anti-abortion rights candidates, after tweeting her frustration about the reversal of Roe v. Wade.

After the the 37-year-old singer posted on social media that ‘women in the US have fewer rights than an actual sparkler’ on the Fourth of July, Twitter users couldn’t help but point out her recent endorsement of a billionaire that previously opposed abortion ‘in most cases’ to replace Eric Garcetti as the mayor of Los Angeles.

In response to her prochoice tweet, the Grammy nominee was called a ‘hypocrite’ and encouraged to do ‘a little more research before supporting’ an ‘anti-abortionist.’

Another asked: ‘But you endorsed Rick Caruso who has donated hundreds of thousands of dollars to Republican and anti-abortion candidates???’

Another urged others to see this as a ‘reminder’ that ‘celebrity girl bosses like Katy Perry & Gwyneth Paltrow who are now posting about reproductive rights endorsed Rick Caruso for mayor’ despite his donations to ‘pro-life causes and Republican candidates including Mitch McConnell.’

Others pulled up a tweet penned by Perry, an outspoken Democrat that campaigned for Hillary Clinton in 2016, from June that read: ‘RICK CARUSO FTW [for the win].’

There were no shortages of tweets questioning ‘how long it will take’ her ‘to come around’ and ‘endorse Karen Bass.’

Others pointed out that Caruso, who is running as a Democrat, ‘advocates for stripping more rights away from women.’
