Sarah Jessica Parker sparkles with Matthew Broderick at opening night of Broadway’s Plaza Suite

Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick were overjoyed to finally bring Neil Simon’s Broadway play Plaza Suite back to life as they smiled on the red carpet at the Hudson Theatre in New York City on Monday night.

The 57-year-old actress simply shined wearing a gorgeous pink Prabal Rana Gurung gown covered in glittering silver stars for the opening night affair on West 44th Street in Midtown Manhattan.

Parker and Broderick star as three different couples in the three-act comedy directed by John Benjamin Hickey, which was first set to begin Broadway previews on March 13, 2020, the day after Governor Cuomo issued statewide mandates closing all theaters as cases of COVID-19 began rising just at the start of the global pandemic.

SJP was thrilled to show off her dazzling dress, which included a silky pink dress that draped down to the ground with thick straps across her shoulders and was cinched at her waist.

Her arms were covered in a glittering sheer silver cape adorned with sparkling sequins and beads, with pleated elements along the neckline which gracefully cascaded down to the floor.

Sarah Jessica let her designer dress be the star of the show as she tied back her dark blonde hair into a tight updo created by Serge Normant.

Their play may have gotten off to a rocky start having to go on a two-year hiatus due to COVID-19, but they’re both ready to be back on stage performing.

‘We’re overjoyed to finally be able to welcome Broadway audiences to the Hudson Theatre to see Neil Simon’s celebration of New York, New Yorkers, and the wonderful ways they fall in love. We simply can’t wait,’ Broderick and Parker said in a joint statement.

The Plaza Suite revival initially began preview performances in February to positive reviews nearly four decades after the original show premiered at the Plymouth Theatre Feb. 14, 1968.

The original show earned three Tony nominations, won a Best Direction of a Play for Mike Nichols’ work and played 1,097 performances before closing on Oct. 3, 1970.

Playbill described the new show: ‘Real-life couple Broderick and Parker play three different twosomes each spending an evening in the famed Plaza Hotel: one couple dealing with difficulties in their marriage on their 24th anniversary, a pair of high-school sweethearts reuniting after many years apart, and the frenzied parents of a jittery bride on her wedding day.’
