Sarah Michelle Gellar won’t allow daughter Charlotte, 13, to act until she graduates high school

Sarah Michelle Gellar won’t allow her daughter to appear on camera until she is 18 years old and no longer living with her parents.

The 45-year-old actress — who has Charlotte, 13, and Rocky, 10, with husband Freddie Prinze Jr, 46 — revealed the acting rules she has in place for her eldest child in an interview The Hollywood Reporter.

‘Does it scare the s*** out of me? Well, we have rules in place. She can’t be in front of a camera until she graduates high school,’ Sarah – who recently called the set of Buffy The Vampire Slayer ‘toxic’ – shared.

The actress went on: ‘She says to me, “That’s unfair. You were a child actor.” Yes, I was. But I was not the child of two famous parents.’

Gellar started appearing on TV herself in her mid-teens before shooting to global fame in the title role of Buffy the Vampire Slayer in her early 20s.

However, the Scooby Doo star did go on to clarify that she would ‘never stop’ Charlotte following in her footsteps but insisted that it would not be happening while she is still ‘living under her roof.’

‘I’ll never stop her from being on a set. But she’s just not going on camera while she’s living under our roof. There’ll be different expectations for her, so she needs to learn everything there is first.’

What’s more, Sarah has previously explained that she will not allow Charlotte to use social media until she is older and can ‘understand’ the nature of having an online platform.

She said: ‘My son doesn’t care. That’s not his world. It’s definitely something my daughter and I discuss. It’s an ever-evolving conversation.’

‘Obviously, there will be a time when I can’t say no anymore because I’ll be keeping her away from the way her generation communicates. But I also need to wait until she gets to a point where she understands the permanence of what you put out there.’

The Cruel Intentions star previously compared the permanence of a post to allowing her children to get face tattoos and added, ‘Our rules are probably stricter than most.’

‘Our kids don’t have social media,’ the star explained. ‘They’re allowed to look sometimes when it’s our phones. Sometimes, our kids will be like “you guys are the strictest household!” But I say, “yes, but everyone still wants to come here!”‘

Gellar also compared allowing her kids to post online to getting a Paw Patrol tattoo on their face in an interview with Yahoo Life’s So Mini Ways.

‘Because at that age, there’s nothing better than Paw Patrol. And now you’re 10 and [13], and you still have these tattoos on your face and it’s not even who you are anymore. That’s a very hard concept for young kids to grasp.’

The Buffy the Vampire Slayer star explained that an environment with limitations fosters better conditions for children to thrive in.

‘I believe kids need to know what their limitations are, and they actually thrive in that environment.’

‘We’re not mean, we’re not unnecessarily strict, but we have rules. And the same way I abide by my code of rules, I expect the same from our children,’ she added.

Gellar has certainly been protective of her kids over the years, and for many years did not show her children’s faces on social media. Last year she hit the red carpet at a special screening of Netflix’s upcoming film Do Revenge – where she made a surprise cameo – and made the rare move of posing with daughter Charlotte at the Hollywood Roosevelt hotel where the reception was held.

Sarah and Freddie Prinze Jr. met while filming I Know What You Did Last Summer which came out in 1997.

They started dating in 2000 and became engaged a year later. They married in a 2002 ceremony in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.
