Thor Love and Thunder’s Most Meaningful Scenes

The MCU‘s newest hit movie is director Taika Waititi’s Thor: Love and Thunder, a charming and action-packed entry in the MCU’s fourth phase. But even when the famously goofy director Taika Waititi is at the helm, a movie like Thor: Love and Thunder will have plenty of drama, hard-hitting plot twists, and impactful scenes that really shake things up.

An impactful scene in a movie will leave a permanent mark either on a character’s personal arc, the overall plot, or more. Such scenes tend to stand out and generate the most buzz. With that in mind, many scenes in Thor: Love and Thunder had a big impact on the movie’s plot and characters.

10 Rapu The God Mocked Gorr

The first scene of Thor: Love and Thunder was highly impactful since it depicted the birth of the MCU’s newest, most ambitious villain yet. At first, Gorr was an innocent mortal man who desperately prayed to the gods for his and his daughter’s survival. Then he actually met his god, Rapu, in person.

Unfortunately, Rapu was an arrogant and selfish god who didn’t bother to help, so Gorr grew bitter and disillusioned in a matter of moments. That was when he found and used the Necrosword to slay Rapu in retaliation, launching his mission to slay all gods across the universe.

9 Jane’s Cancer Diagnosis Was Revealed

Dr. Jane Foster first appeared in the movie not as a superhero, but as a cancer patient who didn’t have much time left. This was hugely impactful on the movie, since it adds some dire emotional and physical stakes for Jane and by extension, her ex-lover Thor Odinson.

This movie is quite humorous, but it’s no satire. Jane’s cancer diagnosis adds some serious drama to the movie and provides a clear-cut reason for why Jane seeks to wield the hammer Mjolnir for herself. Otherwise, she might never have decided to become the new Thor.

8 Mjolnir Rebuilt Itself For Jane

Jane’s personal quest as a fledgling hero was deeply impacted by Mjolnir’s actions. Mjolnir can think and act on its own accord at times. When Jane arrived at New Asgard, she approached the broken Mjolnir, only for that hammer’s pieces to fly together into a single whole.

Now Jane is the new Thor, complete with a battle-ready hammer. From that point on, until her eventual death, Jane was a proper action hero who could fight by Thor’s side as an equal, complete with her own caped hero costume. This changes everything.

7 Gorr Kidnapped The Asgardian Children

Gorr the God Butcher arrived in force at New Asgard one night, supported by his multiple shadow beasts. Gorr was a match for the two Thors and Valkyrie, but he didn’t aim to fight to the bitter end. At least, not yet. Gorr changed his plans and used his beasts to kidnap every child in New Asgard.

The two Thors were helpless to stop Gorr, and they immediately knew what was at stake. They would have to find and fight Gorr once again to save all those hostages, and thus, this impactful scene set up the rest of the movie.

6 Thor Struck Down Zeus In Omnipotence City

Partway through the movie, Thor and his squad arrived in an incredible floating city in space, Omnipotence City. Only powerful, famous gods can visit or live in this place, and Thor was excited to meet his personal hero Zeus while also recruiting a god army to face Gorr.

The pompous Zeus refused to help, so Thor and his allies took action. Thor seized Zeus’ lightning bolt weapon and struck Zeus down, which meant Thor now has a new weapon, and the way was clear to escape Omnipotence City. No gods actually joined Thor’s side, though.

5 Thor And Jane Reignited Their Romance

Thor: Love and Thunder made it clear via Korg’s narration that Thor and Jane had officially broken up and gone their separate ways. But after the Omnipotence City sequence, Thor and Jane had a chance to talk aboard their improvised ship en route to the Shadow Realm.

Thor and Jane, to put it simply, overcame their differences and got back together as lovers once again, even sharing a passionate kiss. This cheered them both up and helped increase the emotional stakes for later scenes in the movie.

4 Gorr Steals Stormbreaker From Thor

Thor and his squad arrived in the colorless Shadow Realm to complete their rescue mission, but it was all a trap. Gorr used his home field advantage to injure and restrain Thor’s group, and then Gorr revealed what he really wanted – Thor’s mighty hammer, Stormbreaker. With it, the wielder can access the Bifrost.

Thor resisted at first, but in the end, Stormbreaker was called. Thor and his allies fought their way out of the Shadow Realm, but Stormbreaker fell into Gorr’s hands. Now Gorr can use it to visit Eternity and get his wish to destroy all gods granted. Now the stakes are at their peak thanks to this impactful scene.

3 Thor Rallied The Asgardian Children Before Battle

This significant scene accomplished a lot not just for the movie’s final battle, but also for Thor’s personal arc as well. Thor arrived in Eternity and finally rescued the kidnapped children, but he didn’t just send them back home. He inspired them with his short warrior-style speech, and it worked.

Thor used both his words and Zeus’ bolt to empower the kids, literally and otherwise, forming a heroic militia to face Gorr. This helped even the odds for the final fight, and it also proved that Thor isn’t just a cocky loner who fights solo. He’s now a real team player and leader, a personal first.

2 Thor Persuades Gorr To Revive Love

In the final battle, the Necrosword is broken, but Gorr still got what he wanted and entered Eternity, as do the heroes. There, Gorr could make his wish to slay all gods, but Thor spoke up and urged the grieving villain to make a totally different wish.

Gorr agreed, and proved that he was never a terrible person deep down. He had simply made mistakes in his grief and rage, and most importantly, his daughter was brought back to life. All ended well thanks to Thor’s persuasive words and Gorr’s willingness to heed them.

1 When Hercules Made His Debut

Some post-credits scenes in Marvel movies are just comedy skits, most of all Captain America’s anticlimactic scene where he lectured the audience about disappointment and expectations. But in Thor: Love and Thunder, these brief scenes were quite meaningful.

One scene showed Jane entering Valhalla to meet Heimdall himself, and the other scene was even more impactful. There, a wounded but recovering Zeus spoke to his demigod son Hercules, and Hercules eagerly accepted the mission to find and defeat Thor for all time. The stage is set for Hercules’ grand appearance in the MCU, and fans can’t wait.
