Travis Scott releases first new song since 10 people died from asphyxiation at Astroworld concert

Travis Scott released his new song Hold That Heat, his first single since the tragedy at his Astroworld concert last November.

The 30 year-old rapper, 30, collaborated with rapper Future and producer Southside.

The trio also released a new music video to go along with their new song.

Back at it: Travis Scott released his new song Hold That Heat, his first single since the tragedy at his Astroworld concert last November

In the video, Scott can first be seen hanging out in a hallway while holding on to a metal chain wrapped around an alligator’s neck.

He raps the same line repeatedly for the chorus, ‘Hold that, hold that heater.’ ‘Heater’ is a slang term for a gun.

Later on in the video, Scott sits on a couch near his collaborator Future and the two smoke marijuana together while Scott continues to rap.

One man later watches a woman, wearing mesh netting and pasties, as she performs a striptease.

The song is laden with references including one to his upcoming album, Utopia. He rapped, ‘Six months down out in Cabo,’ referencing a rumor that he’s been going back and forth from a studio in Mexico.

He also made a nod to his close friendship to NBA shooting guard James Harden with the line, ‘Took her to Brooklyn to meet with thirteen.’ Harden, who dated Khloé Kardashian for several months, wore uniform #13 on the Brooklyn Nets before he was traded to the Philadelphia 76ers earlier this year.

While he made a number of references to drugs and alcohol in the rap, the star did not seem to mention Astroworld or his own reclusiveness in recent months.

On November 5, the goosebumps singer played a show in Houston that descended into chaos when the huge crowd began to push forward.

The resulting phenomenon, known as a crowd crush, led numerous people to try and escape from the crowd by climbing up sound equipment or shouting or help.

While this was happening, Scott continued to perform before eventually stopping the show and pointing out the chaos.

Though members of the crowd eventually received the help they needed, 10 people died because of injuries sustained during the tragic event.

Their names, according to CNN, were: Axel Acosta Avila, 21, Danish Baig, 27, Ezra Blount, 9, Madison Dubiski, 23, John Hilgert, 14, Jacob Jurinek, 20, Franco Patino, 21, Rodolfo Peña, 23, Brianna Rodriguez, 16, and Bharti Shahani, 22.

Eight of the 10 victims died on the night of the concert while Blount and Jurinek died in the days following the tragedy.

Scott offered to pay for the funeral arrangements for the victims though some of the families ultimately turned him down.

Ezra Blount’s family’s attorney Bob Hilliard turned down the offer in a letter to Scott’s attorney according to Rolling Stone and wrote, ‘I have no doubt Mr. Scott feels remorse. His journey ahead will be painful. He must face and hopefully see that he bears some of the responsibility for this tragedy.’

Scott is now facing a much larger lawsuit against him with 2,800 people as plantiffs. There were nearly 400 lawsuits pending in January that were combined into one large lawsuit to be put before a single judge.

The concert’s organizer Live Nation was also named in the suit which alleges negligence and mismanagement of the event.

The Texas Task Force on Concert Safety released a report earlier this week revealing the concert had permitting issues and a lack of security safety training, according to Billboard

While he’s disappeared from the public eye for the last few months, the Out West singer has also been dealing with big changes in his family.

He and his partner Kylie Jenner welcomed their second child, a boy, to the world back in February.

Though they originally named him Wolf, the couple later reconsidered the name and said they would change it though they haven’t shared a new one yet.

The couple also share a daughter, Stormi Webster, who was born February 1, 2018.
