It’s happened: Joining the 2020 Ford Explorer, we have strayed from God’s light and found ourselves with the Ford Explorer ST as well. And the 2020 Ford Explorer Hybrid, too. May the big cars slay on.

With the 3.0-liter EcoBoost engine under the hood, the ST will make 400 horsepower and 415 lb-ft of torque and has a claimed top speed of 143 mph. It’ll have Ford’s 10-speed automatic gearbox and standard four-wheel drive. Admittedly, that’s not bad performance-wise.

There will also be a Sport mode, which tightens the steering, makes the gas pedal more responsive, holds the gears longer and increases the engine noise in the cabin. It’s thrilling, I know.

The Hybrid will use the 3.3-liter hybrid powertrain that Ford estimates will put down a 318-combined HP rating. It has an EPA-estimated range of over 500 miles (for the rear-wheel drive version).

It’s also fitted with the 10-speed auto and the battery has been fitted into the chassis under the second-row seats to maximize cabin capacity.

No pricing was announced at this time. But if you must buy an SUV, I guess it helps if it has 400 horsepower. Good for merging onto highways and speeding past everyone in the parking lot for those sweet Black Friday sales. Or whatever it is SUV people do.
