Ken Spain

Partner/CEO

Ken Spain specializes in helping companies and industry groups overcome challenges to their reputations and their public-policy objectives. He has run numerous public-affairs campaigns to help these organizations tell their own stories, often in the face of intense public scrutiny. Ken analyzes complex situations and develops tactical plans to achieve the desired result, employing research-based messaging and strategic partnerships to sway the target audience. He is also an expert in crisis management.

Before founding Narrative Strategies, Ken led corporate communications and external affairs for Koch Industries, the second-largest, privately-held company in the U.S. He played a central role in the development and execution of the company’s national branding campaign, We Are Koch. Before that, Ken managed communications and public affairs for the Private Equity Council (now the American Investment Council), the industry association for the world’s leading private equity firms. Ken helped defend the industry from outside criticism during the 2012 presidential campaign.

Ken spent his early career working in politics, both as a congressional aide to multiple lawmakers and on various campaigns. Ken oversaw the communications strategy for House Republicans during their campaign to retake the majority in 2010, in what the New York Times dubbed “one of the most remarkable congressional campaigns in more than a half-century.”
