Patrick Mahomes Sr. arrested on DWI charge eight days before Super Bowl 2024

Patrick Mahomes Sr., the father of superstar Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and a former Mets pitcher, was arrested Saturday in Tyler, Texas, on a charge of DWI for the third time or more, according to jail records.

Mahomes Sr. was arrested eight days before the younger Mahomes is set to play in Super Bowl LVIII against the 49ers in Las Vegas on Sunday.

In 2018, Mahomes Sr. received his second DWI charge and served 40 days in jail on weekends in 2019 and 2020.

Mahomes Sr., 53, played 11 seasons in MLB, pitching for the Mets in the 1999 and 2000 seasons.

The elder Mahomes has been supporting his son during the playoffs and told WFAN how, although he has sat in a suite with Taylor Swift before, he wasn’t with her during the divisional round against the Bills and wouldn’t be for the AFC Championship game against the Ravens, either.

“Nah, I don’t think so,” Mahomes Sr. said on Jan. 25. “Travis [Kelce] normally has his own thing and Patrick has his own deal, too.”

Mahomes Sr. was on hand when the Chiefs defeated the Eagles at last year’s Super Bowl in Glendale, Ariz., and smoked a celebratory cigar. He said he was smoking “Philly blunts” after he had joked two weeks before, when the Chiefs beat the Bengals in the AFC Championship game, that he was “smoking that Joe Burrow.”

Mahomes Sr. and his ex-wife Randi, the Chiefs quarterback’s mother, were divorced in 2006, according to People.

The couple’s other son, Jackson Mahomes, got into his own trouble with the law last year. Jackson was arrested in May on an aggravated sexual battery charge after he was accused of assaulting the owner of a restaurant last February.

Charges against Jackson were dropped last month after a judge approved a request from prosecutors to have them dropped.
