Piers Morgan: I lost ‘GMB’ job for not apologizing about Meghan Markle

Piers Morgan says he’s the latest victim of cancel culture following his departure from “Good Morning Britain” for saying he didn’t believe Meghan Markle.

“Those of you that know me well enough know that, despite my many faults, I’m always willing to stand my ground for the things that I think matter most,” he wrote in a lengthy social media note on Friday, adding that his opposition to the Iraq War and his views on American gun laws led to previous terminations from the Daily Mirror and CNN.

“And now I’ve lost my job at Good Morning Britain because I chose not to apologise for disbelieving Meghan Markle’s claims in her interview with Oprah Winfrey,” he continued.

Morgan, who has a well-documented thorny relationship with the Duchess of Sussex, doubled down on his comments over his disbelief of Markle’s claims about racism and suicidal thoughts, the day after he left the ITV show. Though he referred to himself as a “victim,” he maintained that he is not.

“I thus became the latest ‘victim’ of the cancel culture that is permeating our country, every minute, of every hour, of everyday,” he wrote. “Though of course, I consider myself to be neither a victim, nor actually cancelled.”

Morgan, 55, highlighted the importance of freedom of speech, calling it the most “important issue” of his career and British society. Such a freedom allowed him to pivot his message into promoting his book “Wake Up” on Amazon.

“As I said when I left GMB, the right to free speech is a hill worth dying on,” he ended his note. “… This is not simply an act of defiance, but a commitment to our collective futures.”
