Florida forward Keyontae Johnson collapses on court, taken to hospital

Florida forward and SEC preseason player of the year Keyontae Johnson collapsed and was stretchered off the court during Saturday’s game against FSU.

The incident occurred just a few minutes into the contest. Johnson was involved in an alley-oop moments before the game stopped for a media timeout. Once the timeout ended, Johnson was being tended to on the court.

Johnson, 21, was taken off the court on a stretcher. He is being taken to a hospital in Tallahassee. Johnson is in critical, but stable condition.

Following the contest — which Florida lost 83-71 — the team said Johnson would remain at the hospital overnight. Gators coach Mike White will stay with Johnson in Tallahassee while the rest of the team heads back to Gainesville.

Keyontae Johnson named SEC preseason player of the year

A strong sophomore season — in which Johnson averaged 14 points and 7.1 rebounds — got Johnson named to the All-SEC team last year. Analysts and coaches expected even bigger things this year, naming Johnson the SEC preseason player of the year heading into his junior season.

Johnson — who has first-round NBA draft potential — has improved his performance this season, averaging 19.7 points in three games with the undefeated Gators.
