NBA free agency 2023: Cam Johnson agrees to $108M deal to stay with Nets
Cam Johnson has hit the jackpot.
The restricted free agent forward agreed to a four-year, $108 million deal to remain with the Brooklyn Nets, ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reports. Johnson will sign the contract following a midseason trade from the Phoenix Suns, who drafted him in 2019.
A 3-and-D specialist, Johnson previously made $18.6 million over four years on his rookie contract. With the Nets and Suns last season, Johnson averaged 15.5 points, 4.4 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.2 steals per game while shooting 47% from the field and 40.4% from 3-point distance on 5.2 attempts per game.
He'll remain in Brooklyn as a featured part of a rebuild following last season's trades of Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving. Johnson joined the Nets in the Durant trade alongside fellow former Sun Mikal Bridges. Both players took on larger roles in Brooklyn and will continue to do so moving forward. Bridges is signed through the 2025-26 season.
They project to join Nic Claxton in the starting lineup alongside Spencer Dinwiddie and Dorian Finney-Smith, both of whom were acquired from Dallas in the Irving trade. The Nets lack the star power they started with last season, but possess as strong core of contributors who should compete for a playoff spot next season.
They also received four first-round picks from the Suns in the Durant trade and another in the Mavericks trade, one of which they used to select Alabama forward Noah Clowney in last week's draft.
