2022 NFL Draft Consensus Big Board: 82 lists, one ranking of the top 300 prospects

Apr 26, 2022

The NFL Draft has become a premier event in its own right, occupying a central place in the offseason conversation, consuming even more attention than the first round of the NBA playoffs. This attention has given fans more information than ever before. That makes it more likely that they’ll have strong opinions on who their team drafts on Day 3, but it can also be overwhelming to separate the players at the top.

Small differences in opinion can be exaggerated in draft discussions, and that can overstate the differences that analysts actually see between players likely to go in the early rounds. To combat that, we can collect data on what draft analysts genuinely believe about the players in the draft. By combining rankings from multiple experts, we can get a good understanding of what the draft landscape actually looks like.

We’ve compiled a list of the top 300 prospects in the NFL Draft, and we will continue to update it until the day of the draft. Right now, there’s input from 82 different draft analysts.

This method has done a phenomenal job of predicting how the draft will go and where players are generally slotted. The consensus of these experts does a better predictive job than individual experts, and among those 80-plus analysts, the board itself has ranked in the top 10 in predicting draft order in each of the last three years — which is not something any individual expert can claim.

We’ve generated a lot of great insights from this practice.

Where does Dane Brugler disagree with the consensus board?

You might notice some unusual positional designations as you read through the chart. “DL1T” refers to nose tackles, “DL3T” refers to defensive tackles with more pass-rushing responsibility and “DL5T” refers to players who can play 3-4 defensive end or could be either an edge rusher or interior pass rusher. We also have nickel corners listed as NCBs, those who will primarily be expected to play in the slot. Up until the day of the draft, we’ll publish additional insights that can be gleaned from the consensus rankings.

So without any further ado, here is the consensus list of the top 300 prospects.
