Former Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury is meeting with the Houston Texans regarding the team’s offensive coordinator position, according to multiple reports. Here’s what you need to know:
- The Texans hired former player and 49ers defensive coordinator DeMeco Ryans as their head coach earlier this month.
- Ryans has begun putting his staff together and reportedly hired one of Kingsbury’s former assistants, Matt Burke, as their defensive coordinator on Friday.
- The Cardinals fired Kingsbury after Arizona posted a 4-13 record in 2022.
Backstory
One year after the team went 11-6 and earned an NFC wild-card berth, Arizona ended this season on a seven-game losing streak prompting the Cardinals to fire Kingsbury, who’d signed a massive extension following that postseason run.
The Cardinals finished near the bottom of the league in points scored and points allowed in the 2022 season but played without starting quarterback Kyler Murray for six games this past season.

During the 2021 season, Arizona ranked top 10 in the NFL in both scoring and total offense.
Prior to taking over the Cardinals, Kingsbury spent six seasons (2013-2018) as Texas Tech’s head coach. He went 35-40 with the Red Raiders, only producing two winning seasons and three bowl appearances (1-2 in bowls).
