Natalie Portman is an American actor. Born in Jerusalem, Portman began work as a child actor after her family moved to Long Island. Her first feature credit came at the age of 12 in 1994 with Luc Besson’s hitman melodrama “Léon: The Professional,” which saw Portman star alongside Jean Reno. After a '90s run with supporting roles in “Heat” and “Beautiful Girls," plus a Broadway debut in “The Diary of Anne Frank,” Portman was cast as Padmé Amidala in the “Star Wars” prequel trilogy. The blockbuster series, which ran from 1999 to 2005, launched the actor into a global spotlight. After the turn of the millennium, she worked with directors such as Anthony Minghella, Mike Nichols, Zach Braff, Miloš Forman and Wong Kar-wai before starring in Darren Aronofsky’s “Black Swan.” Playing an overworked ballerina who spirals into a psychosexual breakdown, the role earned Portman an Academy Award for best actress. She then entered the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the role of Jane Foster, a scientist and love interest to Chris Hemsworth’s Thor. Other notable credits include “Annihilation,” “Jackie” and “May December.”
