Saturday Night Live

"Saturday Night Live" (SNL) is a sketch comedy show created by Lorne Michaels that debuted on October 11, 1975 on NBC. Featuring a large cast of comedians, the show consists of mostly live sketches, along with a different celebrity host and musical guest each week. Staples of the show include an often-topical cold open with the cast, the guest host monologue, irreverent sketches (sometimes including recurring characters), the TV news parody "Weekend Update," two performances from the musical guest, pre-taped comedy bits and a goodnights segment soundtracked by the house band.

"Saturday Night Live" has won 93 Primetime Emmy Awards through the years, as well as received over 300 nominations, making it the most Emmy-nominated show of all time. The show has also received additional accolades, including six Writers Guild of America Awards and three Peabody Awards. SNL has lampooned many politicians through the years, including presidents from Richard Nixon and Jimmy Carter to Barack Obama and Donald Trump. Several high-profile politicians have also hosted the show, such as Trump, Al Gore and John McCain. Beyond actors, comedians and politicians, SNL guest hosts have also included athletes (J.J. Watt, Ronda Rousey), business figures (Elon Musk, Steve Forbes) and reality stars (Kim Kardashian, Paris Hilton). Several recurring sketches have been turned into films, including 1980's "The Blues Brothers" and 1992's "Wayne's World." Some of the A-list stars got their big break on SNL include Will Ferrell, Adam Sandler, Eddie Murphy, Tina Fey, Chris Rock, Pete Davidson, Chevy Chase, Maya Rudolph and many more.
