Los Angeles May 13, 1999 kärna LLC unveiled the Razer
Boomslang, an extraordinarily responsive mouse specially designed to improve PC
gamers performance, at the 1999 Electronic Entertainment Expo
(E3). kärna is scheduled to launch the Razer Boomslang, readily identifiable by its
sci-fi design, in the fall of 1999.
Designed by Fitch, Inc. for kärna, the Razer Boomslang will meet the demanding
needs of the serious gamer by joining a slick design with high-tech
features and innovative technology. The Razer Boomslang utilizes revolutionary
focused light beam encoding technology that is capable of tracking
movement two to four times faster and with greater precision than that of
conventional mice. The end result is unparalleled,
explosive gameplay. The Razer Boomslang is more responsive, offers smoother
movement and is light years faster than the competition.
The first benefit gamers will notice with the Razer Boomslang is its
incredible sensitivity. This allows the Razer Boomsland to translate the
slightest motion into dramatic movement on screen. Conventional
mice, on the other hand, are uncontrollable with their sensitivity on
max. The Razer Boomslang's new encoder technology enables players to harness
the incredible speed it offers with ease.
"The Razer Boomslang is so fast, youre almost unnecessary," said Robert
Krakoff, general manager for RazerTM. "The high performance of
the Razer Boomslang is an example of technologys dark side made efficient."
The Razer Boomslang will be available in two SKUs1000 dpi and 2000 dpi
models. Current PC mice are approximately 400 dpi. This means
that the 1000 dpi Razer Boomslang will be more than twice as fast and
accurate, and completely blow away the competition. The 2000 dpi
Razer Boomslang is designed for hardcore gamers who demand the very best
from their rigs.
Designed exclusively for gamers, the Razer Boomslang features four ultra-
quiet, tactile feel buttons, a scroll wheel and isnt just for right-
handed players. Buttons and commonly gripped surfaces have
been rubberized to prevent slippage during high intensity gaming
sessions. The one and two buttons are positioned on the top of
the Razer Boomslang with the scroll wheel located in the front center. The
fourth and fifth buttons make up Razer Boomslang's ambidextrous design --
thumb buttons located on the left and right sides of the mouse
give lefties equal use of the controller.
To satisfy the need for speed, both Razer Boomslang models allow players, for
the first time, to change the speed and sensitivity of the mouse on
the fly. Many players will find this to be the products coolest feature,
as different level designs require varying degrees of control (a boss
level vs. a standard level, for example).
To help protect the sensitive components of the Razer Boomslang, an innovative
plastic membrane lines the inside of the controller, acting as a dust
barrier. This feature will lengthen the life span of the Razer Boomslang, keeping
it fast and accurate year after year.
Both Razer Boomslang models will use a USB plug as the main termination. A
USB to PS/2 adapter will be included with every mouse for users who
dont have a USB port on their system.
The Razer Boomslang will be available in November 1999, from www.razerzone.com
at the retail price of $69.99 for the 1000 dpi version and $99.99 for
the 2000 dpi version.
