  • Brewers' Devin Williams: Nearing throwing program

Manager Pat Murphy said Friday that Williams (back) is scheduled to begin playing catch within the next two weeks, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

Williams will be looked at by a doctor within the next few days, which will help determine how far away he is from beginning a throwing program. Though he seems to be trending in the right direction, the 29-year-old closer is still not expected back until around the All-Star break.

  • Brewers' Jackson Chourio: On bench for third straight game

Chourio is absent from the lineup for Friday's game versus the Cardinals.

In three games since Christian Yelich returned from the injured list, Chourio has been out of the lineup each time, although he did get a couple plate appearances off the bench Wednesday. Yelich, Sal Frelick and Blake Perkins appear to be ahead of Chourio in the outfield pecking order, and Jake Bauers might be as well. The 20-year-old rookie is slashing just .205/.275/.397 through his first 25 MLB contests.

  • Brewers' J.B. Bukauskas: Moved to 60-day IL

The Brewers transferred Bukauskas (triceps) to the 60-day injured list Friday.

The move frees up a spot on the 40-man roster. Bukauskas has been sidelined since mid-April with a right triceps strain and now won't be eligible to return until mid-June.

  • Brewers' Tobias Myers: Sent down to minors

The Brewers optioned Myers to Triple-A Nashville on Friday.

The transaction comes one day after Myers was charged with one run on three hits and four walks over four innings in a no-decision versus the Cardinals. Myers should be under consideration for future starts with the Brewers but for now will rejoin Nashville's rotation.

  • Brewers' Joel Payamps: Goes on bereavement

The Brewers placed Payamps on the bereavement list Friday.

Payamps will be away for a minimum of three games and a maximum of seven games. Trevor Megill had already seemed to inch ahead of Payamps in the Brewers' bullpen hierarchy and now over the next few days should have a clearer path to saves.

  • Brewers' Janson Junk: Recalled from Triple-A

The Brewers recalled Junk from Triple-A Nashville on Friday.

Junk has permitted five runs on 13 hits and one walk over five relief innings with the Brewers this season. He will offer some potential length out of the bullpen behind starter Robert Gasser on Friday.

  • Brewers' Robert Gasser: Added to roster ahead of debut

The Brewers selected Gasser's contract from Triple-A Nashville on Friday.

Gasser is set to make his major-league debut Friday against the Cardinals. The left-hander began the season on the injured list at Nashville with an elbow issue before returning to post a 5.25 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 17:6 K:BB through 12 innings. He threw 78 pitches in his last outing, so Gasser would seem prepared to throw 90 or so Friday. He could head back to Nashville after this start, but a good performance might keep him in the rotation for another turn or two until DL Hall (knee) returns from the IL.

  • Brewers' Corbin Martin: DFA'd following trade

Martin has been designated for assignment, the Brewers announced Friday.

Martin will hit waivers Friday, clearing up a spot on the 40-man roster for Mitch White, who the Brewers acquired via trade. If Martin clears waivers, he'd likely end up at Triple-A Nashville.

  • Brewers' Mitch White: Dealt to Brewers

White was acquired by Milwaukee on Friday in exchange for cash considerations.

White has been traded twice in the past 20 days, first moving to San Francisco from the Blue Jays before heading to Milwaukee on Friday. He's pitched 15.1 big-league innings in 2024, owning a 7.63 ERA and a 7:9 K:BB ratio. Although White hasn't shown much to be excited about since posting a 3.66 ERA over 46.2 innings in 2021, the Brewers have a strong track record developing pitchers and Milwaukee is dealing with plenty of injured arms at the moment.

  • Brewers' Joey Ortiz: Launches third home run

Ortiz went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Thursday's 7-1 win over the Cardinals.

Ortiz has now homered in consecutive games and has registered an extra-base hit in five of his last eight contests. He continues to crush right-handed pitching this season, slashing .327/.424/.618 in that split with three home runs, eight runs scored and 10 RBI in 66 plate appearances. The 25-year-old will continue to jockey with Oliver Dunn for playing time at the hot corner, but Ortiz's recent hot streak could give him the upper hand.

  • Brewers' Rhys Hoskins: Homers in second straight

Hoskins went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Thursday's win over the Cardinals.

Hoskins increased Milwaukee's lead to three runs in the bottom of the first inning with a two-run shot off Sonny Gray, giving the first baseman his eighth home run of the season. He's also homered in back-to-back games, though Hoskins is still batting just .154 (4-for-26) in May and hasn't recorded multiple hits since April 26 against the Yankees.

  • Brewers' Christian Yelich: Three hits in win

Yelich went 3-for-4 with a triple, an RBI and a run scored in Thursday's win over the Cardinals.

The outfielder singled in his first at-bat before coming home on a Rhys Hoskins home run as the Brewers took an early 3-0 lead. Yelich would then add an RBI triple in the fifth to extend Milwaukee's lead, and he finished the game with three hits for only the second time this season. He went hitless in his first game back from the injured list but he's hit safely in 11 of 12 games before getting shut down in mid-April. He's also driven in at least one run in four of his last six contests.

  • Brewers' Tobias Myers: Fans six in no-decision

Myers did not factor into the decision in Milwaukee's win over the Cardinals on Thursday, allowing one run on three hits and four walks over four innings. He struck out six.

Myers managed to work his way out of jams despite issuing four walks for the second consecutive start. The only run allowed by the 25-year-old right-hander came via a Lars Nootbaar solo homer in the top of the third inning, and Myers has given up at least one home run in all four of his outings to open the campaign. The six strikeouts were a season high, and he now carries an 8:8 K:BB through two May starts after posting a 9:1 K:BB in his two April appearances.

  • Brewers' Blake Perkins: Not starting Thursday

Perkins isn't in the Brewers' lineup for Thursday's game against St. Louis.

Perkins has cooled off considerably after a hot start, slashing just .136/.208/.273 with two RBI across his last six games. His absence Thursday will move Sal Frelick into center field while Jake Bauers picks up a start in right field, batting eighth.

  • Brewers' Jackson Chourio: Sits down Thursday

Chourio isn't in the Brewers' lineup for Thursday's game against the Cardinals.

Chourio will miss his second start in a row Thursday, though he came off the bench and went 0-for-2 during Wednesday's loss to the Royals. Christian Yelich, Sal Frelick and Jake Bauers will start across Milwaukee's outfield while Chourio rests.

  • Brewers' Robert Gasser: Debuting Friday

Gasser will be promoted from Triple-A Nashville to start Friday's game against the Cardinals, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

The Brewers were forced into a six-man rotation after Freddy Peralta was hit with a five-game suspension, and the team will now call upon one of its top pitching prospects to fill the open spot. The 24-year-old Gasser got off to a late start after a bone spur in his elbow sidelined him for the first several weeks of the season, and he has posted a 5.25 ERA and 1.50 WHIP alongside a 17:6 K:BB through 12 innings in Triple-A since returning. Gasser may be sent back to Nashville after making his MLB debut Friday, though a strong start could allow him to stay in Milwaukee, as the Brewers have struggled with rotation depth to begin the year.

  • Brewers' Brock Wilken: Activated from 7-day injured list

Double-A Biloxi activated Wilken (face) from the 7-day injured list Tuesday.

Since returning from the injury list, Wilken has collected a trio of hits, including a double, in eight at-bats over two games. With his facial fractures seemingly healed enough to allow him back in action, Wilken will aim to get some experience at the Double-A level after receiving a brief run with Biloxi late last season.
