Nevin went 3-for-4 with an RBI single, a double and a run in a win over the Cardinals on Wednesday.
Nevin drew the start in right field and delivered once again, pushing his average to .303 across 37 plate appearances. Nevin has now reached safely in five consecutive games, but Wednesday's two-bagger was his first extra-base hit of the campaign.

Athletics' Mason Miller: Notches fourth save
Miller pitched a scoreless ninth inning against the Cardinals to record his fourth save Wednesday, striking out two and walking one while not allowing any hits.
Miller entered the contest with a three-run lead in the top of the ninth and proceeded to walk the leadoff man before getting two of the next three batters to go down on strikes, both swinging. The right-hander needed only nine pitches to retire the final three batters and record his fourth save in as many chances. Miller has not allowed a hit over his last four appearances, posting a 9:1 K:BB over that stretch.

Athletics' Paul Blackburn: Improves to 2-0
Blackburn (2-0) allowed three runs on six hits and five walks over 5.2 innings in a win over the Cardinals on Wednesday. He struck out seven.
Blackburn struggled with his command out of the gate, surrendering a leadoff single to open the game before walking two batters in the first inning. He then went 1-2-3 through the next two innings, even striking out the side in the second, but was tagged for three runs in the fourth after allowing three consecutive hits to begin the frame. The right-hander had not allowed a run through his first three starts coming into Wednesday's matchup, while it also marked the first time this season in which he failed to make it through at least six innings. Blackburn also recorded a season-high seven strikeouts in the win and currently holds a 1.08 ERA on the season, though he's now issued seven walks over his last two starts.

Athletics' Esteury Ruiz: Second homer in three games
Ruiz went 1-for-5 with a two-run home run, a stolen base and an additional run in a win over the Cardinals on Wednesday.
Ruiz led off and went deep for the second time in three games, slugging a 412-foot shot to left center with Max Schuemann aboard in the third inning to open the scoring. The hot-hitting outfielder's recent power display is especially noteworthy, considering he belted only five homers across 490 plate appearances in 2023, and because he's been focused on improving his hard contact since spring training.

Athletics' Dany Jimenez: Falters again Tuesday
Jimenez (1-1) was charged with a loss and a blown save against the Cardinals on Tuesday, allowing two earned runs on a hit and two walks over one-third of an inning.
Jimenez was entrusted with preserving a 2-1 lead when he entered in the sixth inning, but he immediately worked himself into trouble by allowing the first three hitters he faced to reach safely via a single and a pair of walks. Jimenez would go on to surrender back-to-back RBI sacrifice flies to allow the Cardinals to pull ahead by a run, which would prove the final margin of victory. The normally reliable right-hander has been a bit more vulnerable than usual of late, being saddled with blown saves in two of his last three outings while giving up a total of three runs on four hits over 2.2 innings in that span.

Athletics' Tyler Nevin: Gaining traction in lineup
Nevin will start in right field and bat second in Wednesday's game against the Cardinals.
Nevin will open a game in right field for the first time all season while the lefty-hitting Lawrence Butler rests with southpaw Steven Matz on the hill for St. Louis. Though Nevin's playing time in the outfield will likely be limited to when the Athletics face lefties, he should be in store for at least a semi-regular spot in the starting nine versus right-handers after Oakland recently placed third baseman/designated hitter J.D. Davis (adductor) and outfielder/designated hitter Brent Rooker (ribs) on the injured list.

Hernaiz will start at third base and bat sixth Wednesday against the Cardinals.
Though he's drawing a start at the hot corner in the series finale, Hernaiz appears to have leapfrogged Nick Allen on the depth chart at shortstop. Hernaiz will be making his fifth straight start and his seventh in eight games, despite having recorded just two hits through his first 26 at-bats in the majors. Hernaiz remains one of the top positional prospects in the organization, so he could continue to play regularly while the 7-11 Athletics don't fancy themselves as contenders.

McCann plated the only two runs of the evening for the Athletics. He gave them an early lead with an RBI single in the second and then put them back in front in the fifth with a blast to right against Lance Lynn. McCann has appeared in just five games so far this season as the team's backup catcher and all three of his hits have come in his last six at-bats.

Athletics' JP Sears: Allows two hits over five innings
Sears did not factor into the decision in Tuesday's loss to the Cardinals, allowing one run on two hits and three walks while striking out two in five innings.
Sears was effective for a second straight start, but his strikeout numbers remain unimpressive. The 28-year-old struck out 161 batters in 172.1 innings last year but currently sits at a 9:9 K:BB in 20.2 innings through four starts so far this season. He's now allowed just one run over his last 11.1 innings after giving up nine runs in 9.1 innings over his first two starts to open up the year. Sears owns a 4.35 ERA and 1.16 WHIP and lines up to face the Yankees on the road next week.

Athletics' Esteury Ruiz: Homers in return
Ruiz hit a solo home run in his lone plate appearance in a loss to the Cardinals on Monday.
Ruiz was recalled from Triple-A prior to the contest and entered as a pinch hitter in the eighth inning. He produced Oakland's only run of the game when he smashed a 406-foot solo shot off Cardinals reliever JoJo Romero. It was a bit baffling when the A's sent Ruiz to the minors April 1, as he had gone 3-for-7 with a stolen base over his first three games. He played well during his Triple-A stint, slashing .326/.423/.581 with seven thefts in eight tries and showed more than his usual amount of power with three long balls. He probably isn't going to suddenly become a home-run hitter, but that's fine with most fantasy managers who hung onto him during his demotion -- after Ruiz racked up an AL-leading 67 thefts as a rookie last year, he figures to be a difference-maker in that category (if given enough playing time) now that he's back in the big leagues.

Athletics' Ross Stripling: Falls to 0-4
Stripling (0-4) took the loss against St. Louis on Monday, allowing three runs on six hits and two walks while striking out four batters over 5.2 innings.
Though Stripling picked up his fourth straight loss to begin the campaign -- tied with Luis Castillo for most in the league -- he at least managed to improve upon the six-run, 11-hit performance he posted his previous time on the mound. The right-hander gave up a season-low six hits Monday and came one out away from a quality start, but he garnered only one run of support from Oakland's offense. Stripling has given the A's decent length this season by averaging nearly six innings per start, but he's well off the fantasy radar in standard leagues given his poor overall numbers.
