  • Mariners' Brian Anderson: Rejoins Seattle

Anderson signed a minor-league contract with the Mariners on Thursday, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.

Anderson was released by Seattle on Sunday, though he'll rejoin the team and join Triple-A Tacoma. He could get an opportunity in the majors if Josh Rojas or Luis Urias struggles.

  • Mariners' Emerson Hancock: Recalled from Triple-A

The Mariners recalled Hancock from Triple-A Tacoma on Thursday.

The 24-year-old had been sent down last week, but he will enter the Mariners' rotation as a replacement for the injured Bryan Woo (elbow). Hancock's first start of the season is slated to come Monday against the Guardians.

  • Mariners' Taylor Trammell: Moves off 40-man roster

The Mariners designated Trammell for assignment Thursday, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.

Trammell was decent during spring training, slashing .250/.385/.406 across 39 plate appearances, but he will be pushed off the Mariners' 40-man roster heading into the new campaign. The 26-year-old outfielder owns just a .168 average through 304 career at-bats, but he may get some attention on the waiver wire after posting a .920 OPS in Triple-A last season.

  • Mariners' Casey Lawrence: Strong final exhibition appearance

Lawrence started Tuesday's exhibition finale against the Padres and allowed two earned runs on three hits, a walk and a wild pitch over five innings. He struck out two.

The right-hander put together a solid showing against a Padres lineup that featured almost all regulars. Lawrence received a spring training invite alongside the minor-league contract he inked back in early February, and he's in his second tour of duty in the Mariners organization after also spending part of 2017 and all of 2018 with Seattle. Lawrence's quality spring notwithstanding (2-1, 3.86 ERA across 16.1 innings), he could be headed to Triple-A Tacoma to open 2024 as organizational depth considering his lack of both past major-league success and a 40-man roster spot.

  • Mariners' Dominic Canzone: Projected as Opening Day starter

Daniel Kramer of MLB.com projects Canzone as the Mariners' Opening Day starter in left field following an impressive spring.

Canzone finished Cactus League play having slashed .316/.372/1.109 with four doubles, four home runs and 11 RBI across 43 plate appearances. A trade-deadline acquisition from the Diamondbacks last season, Canzone also swiped a pair of bases during the exhibition slate, and he should see plenty of playing time against right-handed pitching beginning with Thursday's regular-season opener against the Red Sox.

  • Mariners' Logan Gilbert: Solid finish to spring

Gilbert allowed two earned runs on four hits and two walks over 4.2 innings in a Cactus League tie with the Cubs on Sunday. He struck out seven.

Gilbert was tagged for solo home runs by Michael Busch and Garrett Cooper in the third and fifth inning, respectively, for the only two runs he surrendered, but the right-hander otherwise put together an encouraging tune-up for the regular season. Gilbert finished the Cactus League slate with a 6.75 ERA across 16 innings, yet almost all his trouble was limited to two of his five starts. Gilbert finished with a 14:2 K:BB across the 9.2 innings covering his last two spring turns, and he'll now turn his attention to his regular-season debut Saturday against the Red Sox.

  • Mariners' Matt Brash: Tosses another side session

Brash (elbow) threw 25 pitches at 85 percent effort Monday, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.

Brash was recently cleared to resume throwing off a mound, and he's progressed to 85 percent effort after tossing at roughly 70 percent Wednesday. The team will likely re-evaluate the right-hander Tuesday morning to see how he bounces back from his latest side session before determining next steps.

  • Mariners' Sam Haggerty: Lands on injured list

Haggerty will begin the 2024 season on the injured list with a personal medical issue, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.

There is little information available besides the fact that Haggerty is dealing with a non-baseball related injury, per Divish. There is no estimate on when he'll make his 2024 debut at this time.

  • Mariners' Emerson Hancock: Stepping into starting rotation

Hancock will step into the Mariners' rotation to replace Bryan Woo (elbow), Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.

Hancock was just optioned down two days ago, but he has rejoined the big-league team in light of Woo's injury and will step in as the fifth starter, beginning next Monday in the series opener against Cleveland. Woo's MRI came back clean, but he will be shut down from throwing for at least a week. With that, Hancock, the sixth overall pick in 2020, figures to make at least a few starts early on. His numbers in the Cactus League were not good, but the Mariners were said to be pleased with Hancock's overall spring training, Divish adds.

  • Mariners' Bryan Woo: Beginning year on IL

Woo will be placed on the 15-day injured list due to elbow inflammation, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.

Divish notes that Woo felt discomfort while warming up for his last side session, and he ultimately couldn't get loose. He later underwent an MRI, which came back clean. The Mariners are hopeful that Woo can let the inflammation calm down over the next 7-to-10 days, at which point he can resume throwing. Emerson Hancock will take Woo's place in the starting rotation to begin the season.

  • Mariners' Luke Raley: Comes to life in spring finale

Raley went 2-for-3 with a three-run double and a triple in a Cactus League tie with the Cubs on Sunday.

Raley's acquisition in the early-January Jose Caballero trade to the Rays was lauded at the time, given the 29-year-old's positional versatility and the fact he was coming off the best season of his career at the plate in 2023. However, an utterly forgettable start to Cactus League play that saw Raley go 1-for-23 over his first 10 exhibitions was the source of plenty of frustration. Nevertheless, Raley's bat came around over the latter portion of the Mariners' spring training slate, as he finished 6-for-17 with Sunday's two-bagger, triple and three RBI over his last six contests. Jesus Cano of MLB.com reports that Raley is expected to have a key reserve role this season and serve as a left-handed source of power, and he adds that manager Scott Servais never lost confidence in the offseason acquisition despite the early struggles. "He's really strong," Servais said. "You can see it even when he just misses them. He hits them high and he's going to be more consistent. I thought his at-bats were really good today."

  • Mariners' Gregory Santos: MRI date set

Santos (lat) will undergo an MRI on Thursday and the results will determine the next steps in his recovery, MLB.com reports.

If the inflammation in Santos' lat has subsided sufficiently, the Mariners will begin mapping out a throwing program. The right-hander still projects to be sidelined for several more weeks, as he'll need to eventually complete a rehab assignment at the minor-league level before being deemed ready for activation.

  • Mariners' Taylor Trammell: Knocks first spring homer

Trammell went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run in a Cactus League tie with the Brewers on Friday.

The 26-year-old outfielder's second-inning homer with Luis Urias aboard put the first runs of the day on the board. It was Trammell's first round-tripper of the spring. Trammell also pushed his Cactus League average and OPS to .276 and .865, respectively, with the blast; however, whether he makes the cut for the Opening Day roster with Mitch Haniger, Julio Rodriguez and Luke Raley healthy across the outfield, and several other players versatile enough to spell them also available, remains to be seen.

  • Mariners' Luis Castillo: Powers through final spring start

Castillo allowed two earned runs on three hits and two walks over 5.1 innings in a Cactus League spilt-squad tie with the Brewers on Friday. He struck out nine.

Castillo was tagged for an RBI double by Jake Bauers and a run-scoring single by Joey Wiemer in the fourth inning, but he was otherwise busy overpowering most of the other hitters put in front of him. The right-hander put together a successful spring that saw him post a 2-1 record, 2.95 ERA and 22:6 K:BB across 18.1 innings, and he'll be on the hill for Seattle in an Opening Day matchup against the Red Sox on Thursday.

  • Mariners' Samad Taylor: Optioned to Tacoma

The Mariners optioned Taylor to Triple-A Tacoma on Saturday, Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reports.

After struggling with the Royals last season, Taylor was able to put together a solid spring, slashing .273/.342/.485 with two homers and six RBI across 38 plate appearances. If Taylor is able to keep his bat hot as he moves to Tacoma, he could return to Seattle this summer as a utility player.
