Update: This story has been updated with additional information, release systems and screenshots.

Just last month, Bandai Namco teased the next entry in the Tekken franchise, but didn't say what it was. Now we know a good bit more.

Starting off today's State of Play, Bandai Namco revealed the first confirmation that Tekken 8 is coming along with what appears to be the debut of gameplay.

The nearly 2-minute long trailer begins with a shot of G Corp. equipment on a rainy battlefield before Jin Kazama starts speaking about how people like he and Kazuya Mishima should not exist in the world — but his father seems to disagree.

We're then treated to what appears to be a mixture of actual gameplay between the protagonists and cinematic cuts that slow down the action with our first taste of the next generation of Tekken.

Jin is sporting a new design with different pants and straps flowing from his gloves while Kazuya's costume remains very similar to previous games with the white pants.

The fight here implies that Tekken 8's story is setting up a final climactic confrontation between the father and son in a similar fashion to what Tekken 7 did with Heihachi and Kazuya.

Breaking chains also appears to be an important theme for the new game and is even worked into the logo, which is probably connected to Devil Jin and the curse of the Devil Gene.

This trailer is said to be captured from a PlayStation 5, so this is likely what the game truly looks like and will run at 4K resolution. They also confirm the game is running the Unreal Engine, which likely means Unreal Engine 5 at this point.

Longtime Tekken Producer Katsuhiro Harada followed the footage up with a PlayStation Blog post sharing the first details about the new title too.

Tekken 8 is currently in development for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, and you can check out the first full trailer for Tekken 8 below.
