EventHubs reacts to the huge Street Fighter 6 presentation, new characters, World Tour mode and more

We received a humongous amount of new details concerning Street Fighter 6 today, during Capcom's showcase. From the game's very RPG-like World Tour Mode to the official reveal of the first season of DLC characters, fighting game fans got a ton of news to sift through.

John "Velociraptor" Guerrero and I provide analysis of all of the news that was revealed today, and how we think it'll impact the fighting game community going forward. Also, Velociraptor provides his hands-on impressions of the Street Fighter 6 demo that was released alongside the presentation today.

New DLC character reveals

The appeal of the characters themselves is the most important element of the series, to the players and the developers, Street Fighter 6's producer, Shuhei Matsumoto, said during the presentation.

Rashid, A.K.I., Ed and Akuma were all officially confirmed from earlier leaks that they'd be released in the first season of the game. Akuma is a flat-out homerun in many people's eyes, and A.K.I. is a newcomer to the series, likely being the often mentioned apprentice of F.A.N.G from Street Fighter 5.

However, Ed and Rashid's reputations aren't exactly stellar in our community, so the reaction to the latter characters has certainly been a bit more mixed. Ed's design has been evolved once again, after a pretty tepid response to his visual evolution in SF5. Rashid may be popular outside of competitive fighting game circles, but within them, he's one of the most hated characters due to his overpowered and highly privileged gameplay in Street Fighter 5. How these characters will be received in the new game is very much up for debate at this point.

We also recap a good portion of details that were revealed about the game's World Tour mode, but if you're seeking a text-based recap, make sure you check out this story here.

Custom rooms, clubs and much more

Custom rooms, or lobbies as the community knows them, saw a heavy revision and now support up to 16 players, with four cabinets that can be set to one on one, Extreme Battle, or Training mode. This is a large improvement over the offerings in past games, as it means even with a large amount of people in one lobby, there will still be plenty of things to keep the other competitors busy while they wait their turn.

The ability to fight with your custom avatar online against other player's creations should be a blast as well, even if it's not designed to hold up well from a balance perspective.

Clubs appear to be replacing Dojos from Street Fighter 5, with a 100 player limit, the ability to make custom uniforms and a logo. This should offer eSports teams an easy and viable way to represent themselves in-game.

Arcade mode looks to be a near direct port from prior games with a few animation stills and narration over it by the characters, and offering an ending once you've completed the run through the arcade ladder. This seems like the main way you can learn about character's stories, although World Tour mode will provide some details as well.

Arcade mode also features the car/vehicle destruction and basketball parry bonus stages from Street Fighter 2 and Street Fighter 3, respectively.

Tutorials, combo trials and character guides from Street Fighter 5 are all returning. In combo trials, you can slow down the game to run at half speed to make it easier to land your combos and learn the timing.

Battle Hub will have special events and a unique store as well, and I'm personally hoping for a way to watch tournaments in-game at some point. While it's fine to have the option to view matches on YouTube and Twitch, it would be wonderful to place this option in Street Fighter 6 itself, so you can go back and forth from watching tournament matches to playing the game.

You can find all of this and more in the video embedded in this story, so be sure to check it out.
