PENSACOLA— Today, the Board of Governors unanimously appointed Mr. Ray Rodrigues as the next chancellor of the State University System of Florida. He succeeds Marshall M. Criser, III, who announced in June he would be stepping down from the post. Mr. Rodrigues has 16 years of university experience and 10 years in the Florida House and Senate working on complex higher education policy and funding issues.
“Our Board is fortunate to have Ray become our next chancellor, bringing his passion about higher education in Florida to build upon the exceptional foundation Marshall Criser has established, and to lead the System to the next level,” said Brian Lamb, chair of the Board of Governors. “Ray is an experienced and dedicated leader in our state. The Board of Governors and State University System is excited to work with him in this new role.”
“It will be my honor to work with the Board of Governors and the leadership of our exceptional institutions to implement their strategic plans, improve workforce alignment, and ultimately, provide critical support systems for student achievement,” said Ray Rodrigues, chancellor-elect of the State University System of Florida. “I firmly believe the success of our students is the heartbeat of Florida’s higher education system, and I applaud the excellent work Marshall and the Board of Governors has done over the years to get us here. I look forward to the challenge of leading this team to even greater heights of success.”
In other meeting highlights the Board:
- Recognized the service of outgoing chancellor Marshall M. Criser, III
- Approved the 2022 System Accountability Plan
- Approved the Linking Industry to Nursing Education recommendations
- Approved the 2022-2027 Strategic Plans for the University of Central Florida, the University of West Florida, and Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University
- Approved the 2023-2024 State University System Fixed Capital Outlay Legislative Budget Request, including the Preliminary Selection Group of Public Education Capital Outlay (PECO) eligible projects
- Approved the Student Success Plans of Florida Gulf Coast University, Florida Polytechnic University, and New College of Florida
- Approved the 2023-2024 State University System Legislative Budget Request
