All Duval County public schools will be closed Wednesday through Friday as the region prepares for Hurricane Ian, the school district announced Tuesday.

Schools in the district were set to release students early Wednesday before fully closing Thursday and Friday, but changed course after Jacksonville Mayor Lenny Curry said evacuations in some areas of the county may be necessary as early as today.

All extracurricular activities, including athletic practices and games, will be canceled until Monday.
