In a tweet at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, Mayor Lenny Curry says no mandatory evacuations are expected at this time.

On Tuesday, Curry had advised residents in Duval County's Zone A to prepare for the possibility of evacuations Wednesday in advance of Hurricane Ian.

Zone A, typically the first to evacuate in the event of a hurricane, includes substantial sectors of Duval County.

Included within Zone A are most of Atlantic Beach, Neptune Beach and Jacksonville Beach; some neighborhoods along the St. Johns River, Trout River and Julington Creek; a large section of the northeastern section of the county, particularly residential areas along Heckscher Drive; and assorted low-lying areas ranging from the far north of Arlington to homes on the edge of Ortega.

In 2017, when Hurricane Irma rolled up the coast and produced significant flooding in Jacksonville, the mayor ordered mandatory evacuations for both Zone A and Zone B.
