- Dwayne Haskins death, live: Latest news and reactions to tragic accident
Doom gripped the Pittsburgh Steelers after the news of the death of Dwayne Haskins. The quarterback was hit by a vehicle, as reported by ESPN's Adam Schefter, in the words of the player's agent Cedric Saunders.
Even more so when it became known that the quarterback was earlier at a workout organized by Mitch Trubisky, former Chicago Beers and Buffalo Bills, along with other quarterbacks, running backs and wide receivers.
The player was nearing his 25th birthday on May 3 and recently signed his contract with the Steelers to replace Ben Roethilsberger, who spent his entire career with the Pennsylvania State team.
A bad run in Washington
Hailing from Ohio State, he was selected with the 15th pick in the 2019 Draft by the Washington Redskins after a successful stint in college soccer.
In 2021, he was released by the team after failing to take the job with the team in the U.S. capital. His former coach Ron Rivera approved the decision.
At the end of January he would rejoin the Steelers, his current team, to compete for a quarterback position. An important loss in sporting terms but, above all, emotionally.
