In a new video, YouTubers Craig and Chyna Benzine document their experiences after deciding to stop drinking for 31 days. They had already given up alcohol for a month-long challenge earlier this year, and found that they were largely happy with the results, so they decided to try it again, this time also cutting added sugar from their diet and imposing a month-long social media blackout.

"The goal here is not some kind of torture experiment," says Craig. "It's to develop habits that could last forever, so we don't want to make it really hard so that we quit." So instead of giving up all forms of sugar for the month, instead they resolve not to consume any added sugar. This means natural sugars in fruit and vegetables are fine. (They also include one "cheat day" in the month where they are allowed one bottle of champagne for their anniversary.)

Chyna agrees that she wants to "jumpstart" some good habits that she would like to incorporate into her lifestyle, but admits that she has very poor willpower and will be leaning on Craig as an "accountability buddy" for the duration of the challenge. "I still think no added sugar is going to be the hardest of the three," she says.

And sure enough, over the first couple of days, even though they are eating hearty meals, they both report still feeling hungry, as their bodies are craving the sugar. However, after the first week, Chyna says she has more energy and is exercising more, while Craig says he has lost weight and is sleeping better.

When it comes to the social media detox side of things, neither of them miss it that much, as they are still consuming the news and staying aware of what's going on in the world (spoiler alert: there's a whole lot going on in the world) but they're seeing it without the endless stream of other people's commentary.

When their anniversary cheat day rolls around, both Craig and Chyna say that drinking actually makes them feel worse. "I'm restless and tired," says Chyna. "I just don't like it." Once the 31 days are over, Craig keeps his new habits going, keeping up the no-booze rule and significantly reducing the time he spends on Twitter, while Chyna is more moderate in her consumption.

"I've gone back to having some drinks, but not every day, and when I do have a drink, I just don't feel as good," she says. "I've gone back to having a little sugar, and I regret it basically every time... I went back to social media as soon as the month was over. As soon as I posted, I had to the urge to check 'is anyone saying anything?' So I deleted it all again."
