  • BOS Starting Pitcher #50
Crawford gave up a two-run bomb to Jarred Kelenic in the third inning and scattered four more hits across six frames. The righty lowered his ERA to 1.75 on the year, and has now struck out six or more batters in six of his eight starts on the year. He’s off to a surprisingly strong start for the Red Sox this season, and will look to keep things going on Monday against the Rays.
  • ATL Center Fielder #24
It took 73 at bats for Kelenic to finally hit his first homer of the season. His two-run blast in the third gave the Braves an early 2-0 lead, but the Red Sox would battle back before the Braves finally went up 4-2. Kelenic has struggled to make the most of his platooned role, and can’t be relied on by fantasy managers at this time.
  • HOU Starting Pitcher #35
Verlander also walked three, struck out just two, and gave up three home runs on the day. The 41-year-old simply didn’t have it on Tuesday, allowing a three-run homer to light-hitting Alex Verdugo in the first inning. He allowed a run in four of his five innings on the day and posted just an 11 percent whiff rate and 20 percent CSW. His ERA is now 4.43 on the season and he has 16 strikeouts and 10 walks in 22 1/3 innings on the season. It has not been a particularly effective start, but he should have a much easier time against the Athletics next week.
  • LAA Catcher #14
All four of O’Hoppe’s hits were singles and only one of them was hit harder than 95 mph, but the 24-year-old won’t be complaining. The catcher was a popular breakout candidate this season and while he hasn’t set the world on fire, his .279/.330/.404 triple slash is solid from the catcher position. He’s not going to get too many RBI opportunities in a depleted lineup, but his 13 on the season is better than nothing.
  • LAA Starting Pitcher #43
Sandoval came into the game with a 3.84 SIERA compared to a 5.91 ERA, so there were a few signs that his surface-level stats didn’t reflect his true performance. He had also allowed a career-low barrel rate while registering a career-high strikeout rate. That positive regression seemed to strike on Tuesday as he registered a tremendous 34 percent whiff rate and 37 percent CSW. All of his pitches performed well, but his changeup and slider were particularly sharp in the outing. He now has a 4.85 ERA and can be started in deeper leagues this weekend against a solid Royals lineup.
  • PHI First Baseman #3
Harper took a fourth inning pitch from Jose Berrios and hit it 360 feet for a grand slam that left the bat at 95.4 mph and would have been a home run in only two stadiums. Of course, Harper isn’t complaining and neither are his fantasy managers. The 31-year-old is now up to nine home runs and 28 RBI on the season and remains one of the most valuable hitters in fantasy.
  • TOR Starting Pitcher #17
Berríos was able to strike out seven on the day, compared to just two walks, and he allowed just three hard-hit balls all day. However, that led to four extra-base hits and two home runs, so the Phillies made the most of their contact. Berríos was able to post a solid 27 percent whiff rate and 33 percent CSW on the day and allowed an average exit velocity of 90.4 mph, but he put himself in tough spots by throwing just 42 percent of his pitches in the strike zone. All in all, it feels like more of an off night for Berríos than the sign of any major regression. He now has a 2.85 ERA on the season and will get another tough test against the Orioles next week.
  • ARI Starting Pitcher #23
Gallen also walked three batters on the day and started just 11 of the 22 batters he faced with a strike. In fact, Gallen threw pitches in the strike zone just 46 percent of the time on the day; however, when he was able to get a pitch in the zone, the Reds had a really tough time making contact which led Gallen to post a 26 percent whiff rate and 30 percent CSW. It wasn’t his sharpest outing, but he benefited from a Reds team that is having a tough time hitting anybody right now. The effort lowered Gallen’s ERA to 2.84, and he gets a much tougher test against the Orioles this weekend.
  • ARI Center Fielder #7
This was a much-needed big game for Carroll, who is still slashing just .211/.300/.278 on the season with two home runs and 12 RBI. The home run was well-struck at 104.3 mph off the bat and traveling 390 feet. While that’s great, it was the only ball on the day that Carroll hit over 87 mph. It doesn’t make sense to trade Carroll away while his value is so low, but we’ll need to see more consistent quality contact before we can be sure he’s fully healthy or ready for a hot stretch. However, it is nice to see him back to hitting leadoff, which would be important for his fantasy value.
  • WAS Starting Pitcher #32
Williams got off to a strong start in this one, striking out eight of the first 15 batters he faced while allowing just one baserunner. It was a strong outing for Williams, whose eight strikeouts tied a career-high. He was pulled after 77 pitches, with short outings being par for the course for him this season. Williams lowered his ERA to 1.96 on the year and has allowed one earned run or less in five of his seven starts on the year. Williams will look to continue his hot start on Monday against the lowly White Sox.
