Portrait of Alan Blinder

Alan Blinder

I’m especially interested in the business of education, so I might write one day about labor unions on campus and the next about the marketing power of college rankings. I also keep an eye on education politics, the enduring effects of the coronavirus pandemic and debates about pedagogy and admissions practices. Since I used to be a college sports reporter, I also often think about how athletic programs shape schools and perceptions about them.

I have worked for The Times since 2013. Before becoming an education reporter in 2023, I covered the American South, golf and college sports. I live in the Atlanta area but have reported from more than 35 states, as well as Asia and Europe, to write about everything from hurricanes and trials to the Olympic Games and Saudi influence in global sports.

All Times journalists are committed to upholding the standards of integrity outlined in our Ethical Journalism Handbook. For example, I do not donate to education advocacy groups or to political candidates.

I’d like to hear from you: tips, ideas, suggestions, critiques, even restaurant recommendations for whenever I come to report from your area.
