Michigan Election Results

Joseph R. Biden Jr. narrowly won Michigan, and if he goes on to capture Arizona and Nevada, where the results were unclear, he could take the presidency — even without winning pivotal Pennsylvania. Read more

President Trump won Michigan in 2016 by 10,704 votes, his smallest margin of victory in the nation. Michigan Democrats worked hard to ensure that city dwellers, especially in Detroit, where turnout was depressed in 2016, came out to vote.

In one of the most expensive Senate races in the country, Senator Gary Peters, a first-term Democrat, held off a challenge from John James, an Army combat veteran and one of the few Black Republicans running for statewide office. Mr. James has become a Republican star since he first ran, and lost, against Senator Debbie Stabenow in 2018. — KATHLEEN GRAY Read less

This Republican stronghold in Western Michigan has been trending blue in recent years. With Justin Amash, the conservative incumbent who briefly flirted with a third-party presidential bid, deciding against running for re-election, Democrats see a chance to take the seat with their candidate Hillary Scholten, a former attorney. She is up against Peter Meijer, a businessman and a supermarket scion.
