Former South Carolina governor Nikki Haley will not participate in Thursday’s Republican caucuses. Candidates were required to choose between participating in the G.O.P.-run caucuses — which will determine how the state’s delegates are allocated — and a state-run presidential primary that was held Tuesday.

What to expect
Caucuses will be held in-person at more than 1,500 locations across the state, from 8 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Eastern time. Only former President Donald J. Trump and Ryan Binkley, a businessman and pastor, will appear on the ballot. In 2016, the first caucus results were reported before midnight Eastern, and all results were in by 6:00 a.m. Eastern.
In addition to Thursday’s Republican caucuses, a state-run presidential primary was held on Tuesday. Voters could participate in both the primary and the caucus; however, candidates had to choose which to compete in, and only the results of the caucus will determine which candidates receive delegates. Voters needed to have registered as Republicans in Nevada by Jan. 9 in order to participate in a caucus.
Nikki Haley was the only major candidate to compete in Tuesday’s primary, but she was outvoted by a “None of These Candidates” option on the ballot.
