Argument over parking in Harrisburg ends in shooting, standoff

UPDATE: ‘We are in crisis’: Harrisburg mayor addresses deadly ODs, triple shooting

A 5-hour standoff to arrest a suspected gunman ended Saturday in Harrisburg with police rushing into his home and finding it empty.

The man suspected of shooting three neighbors, including a child, remained on the loose Saturday night. Neighbors told police the suspect ran back into his house after the 1 p.m. shooting in the 1800 block of North Street. A man was shot twice, a woman was shot twice and a girl was shot once in the foot. None of the injuries were considered life-threatening.

But he must have left before officers arrived. Police say they believe they know his name and are continuing to search for him.

But police wrapped up the tactical operation about 6:30 p.m. Saturday after they stormed the empty home.

Prior to going inside, police fired pepper gas grenades inside. They also flew a drone to look into the windows and then flew the drone into a broken window to search the home.

The county’s tactical team used multiple flash bangs, designed to distract suspects, as well. Officers then went inside, searched for the suspect, then started packing up to leave.

The tactical team had been posted in front of the house while the standoff took place. There were shell casings visible in the street from the shooting.

Police did not release the suspect’s name.

Neighbors said the shooting erupted after an argument between neighbors across the street from each other over a trash can in the street to protect a parking spot.

The suspect went into his home, got a rifle, then marched back over the street to a woman’s home.

The woman and her daughter were in their front porch when they saw the gunman approaching. They ran inside and tried to shut the door, but the gunman barged in and shot them both in the legs, accord to the woman’s fiancé.
