Burnout Paradise Remastered hits consoles in March (update)

A beloved racing game returns, 10 years later

Burnout Paradise Remastered, an enhanced version of developer Criterion Games’ classic open-world racing game, will launch on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on March 16 for $39.99, publisher Electronic Arts announced today.

The revamped Burnout Paradise will support 4K resolution on the PlayStation 4 Pro and Xbox One X, although it will not offer native 4K on all platforms. (Presumably, this means native 4K will not be available on the PS4 Pro.) EA said the remaster will run “natively” in 1080p on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, as well as in 4K at 60fps on all platforms.

Burnout Paradise Remastered will include almost all previously released downloadable content. The only exception is the Time Savers Pack, an add-on that unlocked every vehicle in the game. Although the remaster is coming first to consoles, both digitally and at retail, EA said it will later release a Windows PC version exclusively in its Origin store. The company did not announce a Nintendo Switch version. EA Access subscribers will be able to play for up to 10 hours starting a week early, on March 9.

Originally released in January 2008, Burnout Paradise gained critical acclaim for its open-world take on the popular series. But Electronic Arts soon moved Criterion Games over to work on the Need for Speed franchise, putting Burnout on the back burner. Paradise was the last entry in the main series, with just one more Burnout title later released on mobile devices in 2010. Burnout Paradise Remastered is being developed by Criterion in collaboration with Guildford, U.K.-based Stellar Entertainment Software.

Rumors first swirled earlier this year that a remaster of Burnout Paradise would soon arrive on modern consoles, following purported forum leaks and an appearance on a Japanese Twitter account. Today’s confirmation comes just after the most recent suggested leak, which appeared on Reddit. For more on Burnout Paradise Remastered, check out the eight 4K screenshots above.

Update 2: EA confirmed to Polygon that Burnout Paradise Remastered will support 60 fps gameplay “across all platforms.” It will also have eight-player online multiplayer, as did the original version.

“As for Switch, we have nothing to announce there,” a representative told us regarding a potential Nintendo port.
