Wellington's mayor says thousands of dollars have already been raised to support those affected by the Loafers Lodge inferno.
At least six bodies have been located inside the building, with 11 people still unaccounted for since the fire broke out just before 12.30am today
Mayor Tory Whanau told Checkpoint the council was giving support wherever it could, including through a dedicated Mayoral Relief Fund.
Whanau said the council had donated $50,000 and the Wellington City Mission had already raised $12,000
She said the hostel was home to people on the more vulnerable side, which made the situation even more heart-breaking.
