      Critics Consensus

Stranger Things transforms itself into a riveting -- if familiar -- summer ride that basks in its neon-laden nostalgia without losing sight of the rich relationships that make the series so endearing.

Camilla Long Times (UK) It isn't the psychokinetic powers that make Stranger Things watchable, it's the suffocating mindlessness of the lovingly recreated small-town landscape. Dec 12, 2019 Full Review Hunter Johnson Dallas Morning News Even while some things go a bit too predictably, the last two episodes tie everything and everyone together in spectacular, emotional fashion. Dec 12, 2019 Full Review Craig Mathieson The Age (Australia) The series has a brazen dedication to its influences; it is curated with wide-eyed delight, which matches the young central characters, who despite two go-arounds with a beast from another dimension still sally forth every day with cheerful abandon. Rated: 3/5 Oct 22, 2019 Full Review Keith Garlington Keith & the Movies I just wish a little more energy was spent on the mystery and suspense; the science-fiction and the conspiracies. In other words, I wish it would get back to its Season 1 roots. Rated: 3.5/5 Aug 19, 2022 Full Review Zofia Wijaszka Screen Queens Stranger Things 3 is an extraordinary coming-of-age story (...). The newest season touches on many different subjects: growing up, the evolution of pop culture, and even sexism in the workplace. Rated: A Feb 13, 2022 Full Review Anwen Crawford The Monthly (Australia) The only dimension that Stranger Things exists in is that of advertising. What it sells is more of what we've already got: Pepsi Freedom(TM). Nov 17, 2021 Full Review Read all reviews

Steven C In season 3 I began to adapt to the genre. The villain is awesome. Involvement of Russian is kinda strange at first, but they complete the story well. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 05/15/24 Full Review Julian R This season was and is my personal favorite of all 4 so far. It is a perfect blend of comedy, sci-fi horror, and drama. Chef's kiss. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/05/24 Full Review Yogesh R This season will also be considered a good season. This season I am also into horror There was comedy, suspense, thrill & much more. Rasiya's Angel was even more interesting. very well written story Rated 4 out of 5 stars 05/03/24 Full Review Peter F Although it switched tone from the first 2 to a more lighthearted and goofy show, it is still awesome. The nonstop action, the continuous plot development through each episode, one of the best sci-f/fantasy adventure seasons ever. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/03/24 Full Review Casey N Season 3: this season switching's to first to second with season 4 so I don't know which one I like better, again it has surpassed the other seasons by a mile, its much scarier and action packed then the other two seasons and is colourful and bright which makes it a stand out, the like I said one of the best seasons of the show 10/10 Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/08/24 Full Review Kate T The first two seasons were great! Enthralling episodes that kept you streaming. Heavily Spielberg influenced with much to remind you of his best fantasy-sci-fi-paranormal adventures. Full of suspense, realistic characters and dialogue that all kept you wanting more. I’ve now watched season 3, VERY reluctantly and with great disappointment. All the suspense, believability, real dialogue, characters, and situations have disappeared. Little sight of Spielberg influence, just a tad of Lucas with one scene of the bad guy killing his own man. Too many attempts at stupid comedy that goes on WAY too long and is simply NOT funny, nor does it belong in the show if one is continuing the genre of the first two seasons. They’ve made Hopper and Joyce unbelievable and not very likable. The kids have all grown out of their cuteness but are still wearing silly haircuts (bowls?)). I did always think Will and Mike needed different cuts, more becoming to each of them and so to easier differentiate them from each other as they have such similar facial characteristics. Mike is now very tall but wearing girly shorts with long, skinny legs. Not a good look. El is now a bit of a fashion maven after a trip to the mall done in annoying camera shots in collage of lots of silly smiles and clothes. Like girls really act like that! They don’t and it’s not “cute”. Also wher did she suddenly inherit money to buy this stuff? Will has obviously matured along with his voice. And Steve turns from tough guy bully into nerd who dresses up in a sailor suit selling ice cream in a mall. Really?! Too much need to fast forward scenes that are useless and embarrassing. Btw Hopper monologue apologizing to El on the answering machine was NOT appropriate if he was talking to his WARD (not his daughter) but it came across like he was talking like a jerk to his girlfriend. Hopper has been turned into a real stooge with all the hot head drama and stupid slapstick stuff written into the script. What happened?! I looked to see if it was a brand new team of writers on season 3. No mention of it! Mostly I fast forwarded m, hoping each epudode would be over soon and the next would be better like before. No. Nothing is better. All relationships are trashed and rewritten in cliche formats. Bogus. I’ll give season 4 a look but if it’s more of the same, I can’t watch it all I would say they made the right move ending the series. It is done.
