Looks like Lizzo has some thoughts about Liam Payne's recent comments about his time in One Direction.
On June 2, clips of Liam Payne’s appearance on Logan Paul’s podcast Impaulsive began circulating on social media. During his interview with Logan, Liam spent a lot of time talking about his former bandmates in One Direction, namely sharing that he and Louis Tomlinson “hated each other” during their band days, revealing that he and another 1D member almost fist-fought, and that he “dislikes” Zayn. (He later walked back on his comments about Zayn, claiming he didn't articulate himself well enough, but that “Zayn is my brother and I will stand by him forever.”)
Liam's comments caused a stir online, with many former 1D fans chiming in on the drama — Lizzo included. In a TikTok video, the “About Damn Time" singer zeroed in on one of Liam's comments in particular — that One Direction was formed around him.
"From what I've heard, part of the reason One Direction was made was because of Simon [Cowell]'s promise to me," Liam told Logan, referring to the group's The X Factor origins. "So he kind of started with my face and worked out around the rest. I've never told this story before."
During the latest episode of her pop culture commentary series “Tik Tok Observations,” Lizzo seemingly referred to Liam's claims that he was the leader of 1D.
“I don't know who lied to that poor boy, but he was not the frontman,” Lizzo said.
It's important to note that Lizzo is friendly with a few other former One Direction members — she and Harry Styles have been good friends since Harry's viral cover of her hit song “Juice” back in 2019. The two have supported each other at their concerts, and Harry even invited Lizzo to share the stage with him when he headlined Coachella in April 2022. Lizzo has also shared flirty banter with Niall Horan, which even led to fans shipping them.
One thing about a 1D stan? They're going to defend their faves.
