'The Voice': Blake Shelton fails to convince 4-chair singer Kim Cruse with slick pitch

Blake Shelton may have that golden singing voice, but smooth talking is not his forte.

The country music star, alongside coaches Camila Cabello, Gwen Stefani and John Legend, passionately vied for Texas songstress Kim Cruse during the final round of blind auditions on "The Voice" Monday night. The 30-year-old earned a four-chair turn with her soulful performance of “Best Part” by Daniel Caesar and H.E.R.

“What a magical, beautiful gift you have. Everything that was coming from you just felt so natural,” Legend said. “I would love to help you figure out how to best display this amazing talent that you have to the world.”

While Shelton was not familiar with Cruse’s song selection, he tried to spin this as an opportunity for the two “to learn from each other” if she were to pick him as her coach.

But Legend couldn’t be fooled by the poetry of Shelton’s slick pitch.

“Don’t listen to him,” he told Cruse. “It’s important to have a coach who knows where you’re coming from (and) understands the kind of music that you want to do.”

Cruse couldn’t be fooled either and chose to join Team Legend.

Here’s what else went down during Monday’s episode.

John Legend fan chooses Camila Cabello over Legend

Fourth-grade teacher Constance Howard aced her blind audition, earning chair turns from Legend and Cabello with her stunning whistle tone and warm cover of Justin Bieber’s “Peaches.”

Cabello connected with the 27-year-old over their shared wallflower pasts.

“I used to be so shy when I was younger. I never liked to sing in front of people,” Cabello said. “The first time that I sang in front of people was on a singing competition show, and I have come such a long way from that.”

Legend praised the Texas singer’s unique tone, adding he could assist her in exploring her musicality.

“Every coach on here could say, ‘You don’t sound like anybody on my team,’ ‘cause you don’t sound like anybody on the show,” Legend said. “I would love to work with you, help you pick songs, help you figure out how to channel that into a really successful time on this show.”

But Cabello felt strongly about her chemistry with Howard. “If we were on a dating app for ‘The Voice,’ I would swipe right and you would swipe right,” she said.

Despite growing up listening to Legend’s music, Howard opted to join Team Camila, completing the singer’s team.

Gwen Stefani steals precocious teen singer from Camila Cabello, John Legend

South Dakota teen Rowan Grace proved girl power doesn’t skip a generation, winning over Stefani, Cabello and Legend with her emotional performance of Olivia Rodrigo’s “Traitor.”

“It’s really hard to do what you just did. And at 16 years old, to channel that emotion…to be able to control it, and to be dynamic and tender, and then get angry, you have to live to be able to do that,” Stefani said. “I need to work with you.”

Cabello compared Grace’s presence to Rodrigo and said she was “inspired” by the 16-year-old singer.

“She’s singing ‘Traitor’ (by) Olivia Rodrigo. I’m going to guess that she’s a young, aspiring singer-songwriter,” Cabello said. “That makes me so excited because I feel like I could really coach you through the nerves and also find out what your specific lane is.”

Stefani also threw in her solid track record of working with young vocalists on “The Voice,” including Season 19 winner Carter Rubin. “To watch him blossom right before my eyes, it was just a magical thing for me,” she said.

In the end, Grace chose ‘90s girl-power icon Stefani as her coach.

Blake Shelton shades John Legend, nabs 'mesmerizing' singer

Washingtonian Jaeden Luke dazzled Legend and Shelton with his dreamy, acoustic rendition of Bread’s “Make It with You.”

“The (Washington) scene is really conducive to creative, interesting artists, and you are certainly that,” Legend said. “Everything that you did just created this vibe that was transcendent and mesmerizing.”

Feeling the pressure to round out his team, Shelton made an earnest pitch to the 22-year-old singer.

“I have one spot left on my team,” Shelton said. “You could be the person who completes me.”

Shelton also threw a little shade Legend’s way, pointing out that Legend allegedly passed on choosing Luke as his opening act for a concert he played in Washington. “I never fired you,” he said. “John fired you.”

Luke may not hold grudges, but he chose to join Team Blake and complete his team.

“I’m so happy that Jaeden literally completed my team as far as every genre that I’m into,” Shelton said. “Because of him, I’ve got one of those guys that does some of that throwback '70s-sounding pop that I love.”

With the coaches’ teams now filled, the singers move on to the Battle Rounds, during which each coach will pair the contestants on their team for a series of vocal battles to determine who advances in the competition.
