Mike Pence to headline CNN town hall in Iowa next month

WASHINGTON − Mike Pence hasn't officially announced a bid for president yet, but the Republican former vice president is still getting the CNN town hall treatment early next month.

Pence will headline a June 7 town hall at Grand View University in Des Moines, Iowa, CNN announced Thursday. It marks the latest in a series of town halls featuring Republican presidential candidates, including the raucous May 10 event with former President Donald Trump.

Pence, Trump's former vice president, will take questions from CNN moderator Dana Bash and "a live audience which is comprised of Iowa Republicans and Iowa voters, who say they will pre-register to participate in the Republican caucuses," the network said in a statement.

The Iowa caucuses early next year will provide a first test for Trump and his Republican opponents.

Pence has said he would make an announcement about his 2024 plans before the end of June.

CNN also said this week that former South Carolina governor and 2024 GOP presidential candidate Nikki Haley will participate in a town hall in Iowa on June 4.

The Trump town hall in New Hampshire this month included several arguments and harsh exchanges; CNN took criticism for giving Trump such a platform, though the network said at the time that it would host similar events for other candidates.
