'Do something good:' Uber driver returns $8,000 Christmas gift to Hoover teen after losing it
THE FIRE STARTED. WELL, THIS IS A STORY MOST WILL NEVER FORGET. A LOCAL TEEN LEAVES BEHIND $8,000 CASH IN HIS UBER RIDE, AND YOU’LL NEVER BELIEVE WHAT HAPPENS NEXT. IT’S A STORY YOU’LL ONLY SEE ON WVTM 13, MAGDALA LOUISSAINT TELLS US HOW THIS TEEN’S LUCK TURNED AROUND. I GET A LOT OF TIPS AND I DON’T KNOW WHY, BUT I. I TALK TO THEM, I TALKED TO RIDERS AND WE GET GOOD CONVERSATION AS BEN. CARMEL HAS BEEN AN UBER DRIVER ON AND OFF FOR FOUR YEARS. TUESDAY AFTERNOON WAS NO DIFFERENT WHEN THE FATHER OF FIVE PICKED UP ALEX TISDALE IN HOOVER. HE TOLD ME HOW HIS DAD IS PROUD OF HIM AND HOW HE’S ALSO VERY PROUD OF HIM. OKAY. AND HE SAID SOMETHING WHICH MAKES ME FEEL VERY GOOD. ON THE 15 MINUTE RIDE TO JOHN HAWKINS PARKWAY, THE 16 YEAR OLD TELLS CARMEL HIS DAD JUST GAVE HIM $8,000 AS A CHRISTMAS GIFT TO BUY HIMSELF A NEW MOTORCYCLE. CARMEL DROPS ALEX OFF TO PICK UP ANOTHER PASSENGER. AND THEN I REALIZED THERE’S SOMETHING AT THE BACK OF MY SEAT AND I PICKED IT IMMEDIATELY AND WHEN I CHECKED, I SAW THIS. A LOT OF MONEY. QUITE A LOT, TO BE HONEST. CARMEL FINDS THE CASH IN A RED BAG. HE HOLDS IT UNTIL HE CAN REPORT IT MISSING TO UBER. MEANWHILE, ALEX IS FRANTICALLY RETRACING HIS STEPS. I WAS PACING AROUND THE PARKING LOT JUST THINKING. WHERE? WHERE COULD I PUT IT? WHERE WOULD IT BE? NO WAY TO FIND EACH OTHER. THE TWO REPORTED THE MISSING ITEM ON THE APP. THEN UBER CONNECTED THEM OVER THE PHONE AND WITH NO HESITATION, CARMEL DROVE BACK TO ALEX. I WAS RELIEVED, SO SURPRISED HE ACTUALLY CAME BACK BECAUSE THAT WAS A VERY, VERY NICE THING OF HIM TO DO. ACTUALLY TIPPED HIM $10. SO FOR THAT, A GENEROUS TIP ALEX WILL NEVER FORGET. JUST BE GRATEFUL FOR IT. YOU HAVE. THAT’S THAT’S ALL I CAN SAY. AND CARMEL SAYS TO ANY UBER DRIVER OUT THERE, DO THE RIGHT THING AT THE RIGHT TIME BECAUSE WHEN YOU DO SOMETHING GOOD, OKAY, IT COMES BACK TEN TIMES IN HOOVER.
