'Do something good:' Uber driver returns $8,000 Christmas gift to Hoover teen after losing it
Esbon Kamau has been an Uber driver on and off for four years. Tuesday afternoon was no different when the father of 5 picked up Alex Tisdale in Hoover.
“He told me how his dad is proud of him and how he's also very proud of him. And he said something which makes me feel very good,” Kamau said.
On the 15-minute ride to John Hawkins Parkway, the 16-year-old told Kamau that his dad just gave him $8,000 as a Christmas gift to buy himself a new motorcycle.

Kamau dropped Alex off to pick up another passenger, and then, “I realized there's something at the back of my seat. And I picked it up immediately. And when I checked, I saw this a lot of money, quite a lot, to be honest,” Kamau said.
Kamau found the cash in a red bag. He holds it until he can report it missing to Uber.
Meanwhile, Tisdale is frantically retracing his steps.
“I was pacing around the parking lot just thinking, where? Where could I put it? Where would it be?" Tisdale said.
With no way to find each other, the two reported the missing item on the app, and then Uber connected them over the phone. And with no hesitation, Kamau drove back to Tisdale.

"I was relieved and so surprised he actually came back because that was a very, very nice thing of him to do. Actually, tipped him $10 for that,” Tisdale said.
A generous tip Tisdale will never forget.
“Just be grateful for what you have. That's all I can say," Tisdale said.
Kamau says to any Uber driver out there, do the right thing at the right time because, “When you do something good, OK, it comes back 10 times," Kamau said.
