Billie Eilish returned to Vanity Fair for the sixth year of her annual interview with the publication. This year, she said she's "in a good spot in my life right now," crediting her improved relationship with her body as one of the catalysts of change.

The 20-year-old has spoken about her body a lot through her years in the spotlight, addressing her signature style of oversized clothing in the past and experimenting with more feminine silhouettes. The evolution of her style, she's said, has had a lot to do with body image, with which she has a complicated relationship. Recently, she's been focused on changing that.

"I've had a very big transformation this year with my fitness lifestyle and it's been a really insane process," she said in the video. "I feel better about myself than I ever have, which makes me feel proud. I worked really hard on it. And I just want to get really f***in' buff, I just want to be buff. Yeah, so hopefully by next year, I will be ripped."

It isn't the first time that Eilish has talked about her recent love of fitness. She spoke to Zane Lowe about it in an interview for Apple Music in late September saying that she's turned into a "gym rat" since finishing her latest tour.

"It's changed my life. I started working out really heavy in May-ish. But then especially coming back from Europe, I started like working out at a gym for the first time, and every day," she told Lowe. "That was not a thing that I did and it's become such an incredibly huge part of my life and it makes me feel so much better as a person."

Eilish's increasingly positive outlook differs greatly from how she's spoken about her body in the past. "My relationship with my body has been a truly horrible, terrible thing since I was 11," she told the Sunday Times in June.

The singer and her body gained a massive amount of attention in June 2021 when she appeared on the cover of British Vogue wearing a corset. "I lost 100,000 followers, just because of the boobs," she told Elle about the mixed response to the photos. "People are scared of big boobs."

Ultimately, revealing more of herself has allowed her to embrace it in turn.

"I hated the way I looked before," she said in an interview with the Observer in Dec. 2021. "I don't love it now, but I feel a little more confident in myself and I've gotten a lot more proud of who I am."
