Best dressed at Red Ball, Part 2 | Lifestyle

Did you see Part I of my list of the Best Dressed at the Red Ball? If not, look for last Friday’s edition of the Pacific Daily News. In it, I showcased the first cohort of the best-dressed men and women at the event. This week, I complete the feature by highlighting 14 more individuals on my list.

Last week, I mentioned that my choices are highly subjective and based on my preferences. This was the three criteria I used: 1) Did the individual’s outfit have an overall pleasing aesthetic? 2) Did their fashion choices fit well and flatter them? And, 3) Did they carry their clothing with confidence?

The Red Ball has earned the coveted reputation for being one of the island’s premier events to attend. The ball started 20 years ago and is a signature fundraising project for the American Red Cross Guam Chapter. Attendees typically include movers and shakers in the business community, island dignitaries and community supporters.

The ARC Guam Chapter relies on the generosity of the community to assist families in emergency situations, such as home fires or larger-scale disasters like typhoons.

Due to limits to indoor gatherings, the event was celebrated over three nights at the Hyatt Regency Guam’s lobby from March 24-26. Prior to the pandemic, the Red Ball would easily attract a crowd of over 700 guests.

Joey Chargualaf easily gets the distinction for wearing a real head turner at the event. His outfit, which employs red and black color blocking, was inspired by the local lockdown at the height of the pandemic. He purchased it on Amazon.

“I just wanted to totally stand out and feel liberated after experiencing all of the COVID-19 protocols and restrictions,” Chargualaf said.

Joey Chargualaf’s outfit was a great example of strategic color blocking. I thought he pulled it off well and clearly not everyone could do that!

Without further delay, here’s my second cohort of choices alphabetized by first name:

Annabelle Dancel, past district governor of International Lions Club District 204, wore a long black halter v-neck dress with rhinestones. She sparkled without overdoing it.

Candy Okuhama, president of ASC Trust, wore a high neck floral dress with bishop sleeves. This was a fantastic choice and she clearly stood out.

Ernie Galito, business development director and Trina Cruz, marketing and communications director at Atkins Kroll Inc. both exuded classiness.

Isa Baza, an attorney at the Superior Court of Guam wore a maroon pant suit. Very chic!

John Ilao, general manager at Agree Aircon Depot, sported a dark grey blazer and textured burgundy necktie. Great color combo. He looked cool.

Marcos Fong, CEO of Foremost Foods Inc. and Coca-Cola Beverage Co. Guam Inc. and chairperson of the ARC Guam Chapter Board, looked high-powered in a tuxedo.

Rose Grino, FHP health care delivery administrator, had a very unique look with a one-sleeved gown in an elegant shade of grey. Very sophisticated.

KUAM looked sharp as a team and individually! Product Director Jason Salas wore a black necktie and red accents. Sabrina Salas Matanane, managing director of news and local productions, dressed up in a shimmery pantsuit, and Chris Barnett, podcast network director, chose a dynamic pop of red for his bowtie.

Paul Calvo, Jr., president and CEO of Calvo’s Insurance Underwriters, donned a fun pomegranate blazer while his wife, Shelly Calvo, wore a solid-colored teal dress. Their color combinations were eye-catching both together and separately.
