Farm workday
A drop-in volunteer workday is scheduled for Thursday from 1 to 4 p.m. at Bayside Park Farm, 930 Old Arcata Road, Arcata.
Projects may include planting, weeding and harvesting. No experience is necessary and families are welcome. Appropriate attire would be closed-toe shoes, long pants, sleeves and a sunhat. Everyone should bring a water bottle and snacks. (Pack out all trash and recyclables.) Pets should stay home. COVID-19 protocols must be followed when visiting Bayside Park Farm.
Drop-in volunteering is for individuals, families or friends in groups of five or fewer. Larger group should contact the on-site farmer to ensure extra staff is on hand to help facilities.
Volunteers should show up by 12:45 p.m. to sign paperwork and be prepared to start at 1 p.m.
Flea market
CUNA (Comunidad Unida del Norte de Arcata/Community United of North Arcata) will host Valley West’s first Tianguis (a Latinx-style flea market) at Carlson Park at the Mad River Parkway off Giuntoli Lane on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Marsh field trip
The Redwood Region Audubon Society will present a free guided field trip at the Arcata Marsh and Wildlife Sanctuary on Saturday from 8:30 to 11 a.m. Everyone is asked to bring binoculars and meet leader Ken Burton at the end of South I Street (Klopp Lake) in Arcata to enjoy views of Humboldt Bay and a great diversity of birdlife.

Wetlands workday
The Redwood Region Audubon Society will host a Wigi Wetlands Volunteer Workday on Saturday from 9 to 11 a.m. for a Wigi Wetlands Volunteer Workday. Everyone can help create bird-friendly native habitat and restore a section of the bay trail by removing invasive plants and trash. The trail section is located behind the Bayshore Mall and volunteers will meet in the parking lot directly behind Walmart.

Kayak tour
The Redwood Region Audubon Society, in partnership with local guiding company Kayak Trinidad, will offer a morning of viewing local seabirds via kayak on Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon.
Participants will ply the waters of Trinidad Bay with professional kayak guides seeking out marbled murrelets, pigeon guillemots, common murres, black oystercatchers and more.
All kayaks and gear will be provided. Space is limited and reservations are required. The cost of this trip is $109 per person. Email Andrew Orahoske at andrew.rras@gmail.com to reserve a spot on this seabirding adventure.
Hall dedication
On Saturday at noon, the city of Eureka will re-dedicate the new Veterans Memorial Hall at 1018 H St. in Eureka.
The Masons of Humboldt Lodge No. 79, who have been part of the Eureka community since 1855, along with officers of the Grand Lodge of California’s Grand Master Jeffrey Wilkins and local dignitaries, will commemorate this event by conducting a formal re-dedication of the building’s cornerstone. The event is open to the public and all are welcome.
During the ceremony, Wilkins and other Masonic officials dress in formal Masonic regalia as they dedicate the building in a ceremony that includes a symbolic blessing with corn, wine and oil, which are Masonic symbols of prosperity, health and peace. The tradition is rooted in the historical significance of a cornerstone, which is the first stone set in building a foundation of masonry.
Marsh tour
Friends of the Arcata Marsh is sponsoring a free tour of the Arcata Marsh and Wildlife Sanctuary on Saturday.
Everyone will meet leader Andy Feinstein at 2 p.m. in the lobby of the Interpretive Center on South G Street for a 90-minute, rain-or-shine walk focusing on the ecology of the marsh. Masks are recommended but not required inside the building, regardless of COVID-19 vaccination status. For more information, call 707-826-2359.
Birding tour
The Redwood Region Audubon Society will offer a free guided birding tour at the Wigi Wetlands portion of the Humboldt Bay Trail on Sunday from 9 to 11 a.m.
Everyone will meet leader Hal Genger at the Bayshore Mall parking lot behind Kohl’s Department store for a stroll along the trail looking at birds, plants and the restoration in progress. RSVP by emailing Genger at hmg1@humboldt.edu.
Pancake breakfast
The Trinidad Lions Club will hold a pancake breakfast Sunday from 8 to 11 a.m. in the Trinidad School cafeteria.
The menu includes pancakes, eggs and a choice of mam or sausage, or biscuits and gravy and eggs. Juice, coffee, tea and milk are included. The cost is $8 for adults and $4 for children under the age of 12. Proceeds will support school, youth and community activities.
Parade participation
The Blue Lake Chamber of Commerce invites businesses, organizations and individuals to participate in this year’s Annie & Mary Day Parade on July 10.
