Rotary Club embarks on healthy lifestyle drive

Rotary Club of Jamshedpur Steel City Project has embarked on Positive Health Phase II with the aim of making school children health conscious and adopting a healthy lifestyle.
Under this, health awareness is being spread among the students of class seven and above classes in the schools of the city. According to a survey, if children are not motivated to be healthy, then by 2025, 17 million children of the country will become obese and after America, we will be the second country where most children will be victims of obesity. Obesity itself becomes the cause of many complex diseases. Therefore, the need of the hour is to motivate the children of class 7 and above to adopt a healthy lifestyle in schools. Rotary Club of Jamshedpur Steel City has taken this initiative in Project Positive Health Phase II.
Organised in five schools so far under the project, the office bearers and members of the club take the doctors to the schools of the city and the school children are made aware of the advantages of a healthy lifestyle and the disadvantages of indifference towards health by the doctors. This team has so far given its presentation in five schools of the city under the project. These include Loyola Hindi School, Rajasthan Maitri Sangh School, Shane International, Narbheram Hansraj English School, KPS NML School. The most recent program was held at Rajasthan Maitri Sangh School, Sonari where about 250 children were given tips to stay healthy under Project Positive Health.
A team of doctors is working with the club in which Dr. Vinayak Barua, Dr. Sharmistha Soni, Dr. Soma Ghosh, Dr. Amlan Swain are participating.
The club has earlier run Project Positive Health Phase One under which ‘Know Your Numbers’ was organized. Through this, people’s health was checked and they were told about diseases like sugar, blood pressure, etc. For example, how much sugar is there in their body or their blood pressure is under control or is high. If more were found, then tips were given to control them. In Phase One, the club had conducted a health check-up of about 1500 people by setting up camps. Government is also running the Fit India Movement.

“School children of class VII and above especially need to be more health conscious because this is the age when the foundation of a healthy body is formed throughout life. And if there are healthy citizens, then the country will benefit in many ways. Medical expenses of crores of rupees will be saved and people will be able to enjoy life. That’s why the club has targeted school children under Project Positive Health Phase II. The support of the schools in the journey so far has been commendable and I hope that by the time this project is completed, the children will understand the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle and benefit a lot from it. I would urge the parents to motivate their children to adopt a healthy lifestyle at their own level said Jalpa Parikh, President, Rotary Club of Jamshedpur Steel City.
