PlayStation State of Play June 2022: Everything Announced Including Final Fantasy 16 and Resident Evil 4 Remake

The latest PlayStation State of Play has arrived and it did not disappoint. From a new look and release window for Final Fantasy 16 to the long-awaited reveal of Resident Evil 4 Remake to a release date for Stray, there was a wide range of games featured in this show.

This roundup will gather each and every announcement and trailer in one place so you can catch up on the latest news out of the world of PlayStation!

Final Fantasy 16 Will Officially Be Released in Summer 2023

Final Fantasy 16’s latest trailer has finally arrived and it was filled with gameplay and some of our favorite summons (Eikons in FF16) from Final Fantasy’s history, including Phoenix, Titan, Garuda, Ramuh, Shiva, Odin, Bahamut, and Ifrit.

Final Fantasy 16’s protagonist Clive Rosfield also was featured in this “Dominance” trailer, and it showed how he and his team will take on the many enemies that will undoubtedly get in your way in the game’s story.

It also revealed that Final Fantasy 16 will be released on PS5 in Summer 2023. The game can currently be played from start to finish and the team is using all this time to polish the game the best they can.

Resident Evil 4 Remake Officially Announced

Resident Evil 4 Remake is officially on its way and it will be released on March 24, 2023. Capcom is looking to reimagine the “storyline of the game while keeping the essence of its direction, modernizing the graphics and updating the controls to a modern standard.”

PSVR2 owners will also be able to look forward to some type of VR content, although no further details were given.

Resident Evil Village Is Getting the VR Treatment

Resident Evil Village will soon allow players to visit its world in a brand new way as it will be made available for PlayStation VR 2. And yes, it will be the complete campaign, meaning you will have to experience [redacted] in VR.

VR will also let players guard by actually lifting their arms and will give them the option to use different weapons in each hand for even more combat opportunities.

Street Fighter 6’s First Gameplay Trailer Was Shown Alongside a 2023 Release Window

Street Fighter 6 will brawl its way to PlayStation 4 and PlayStation in 2023 (it’s also coming to Xbox Series X/S and PC). While that may be a bit of a wait for some, Capcom has provided fans with an extended look at gameplay for the latest entry in the legendary fighting franchise.

Street Fighter 6 is being built on Capcom’s RE Engine – the same engine used for Resident Evil 7 and Village – and it will allow for improved graphics alongside a more stylish experience that will be filled with “explosive splashes of paint and the striking graffiti treatment.”

As we wait for more news, Street Fighter fans will be happy to know Ryu, Chun-Li, Luke, and newcomer Jamie are all already signed on to the roster.

Horizon Call of the Mountain Will Will Let You Experience Horizon in a Whole New Way

The latest State of Play gave us an extended look at Horizon Call of the Mountain’s gameplay, which is coming exclusively to PSVR2.

In this new story set in the world of the first two games, players will become a former Shadow Carja Warrior named Ryas who is looking to redeem himself by “investigating a grave new threat to the Sundom. He excels at climbing and archery (which are great for VR) and will have to do such things as scale “perilous mountains” and “taking down mighty machines like the Thunderjaw.”

Even though players won’t be seeing this world through the eyes of Aloy, they will run across them and other familiar and new faces along the journey.

This will also potentially be a great showpiece for the PSVR2 as, alongside the story mode, there will be a River Ride mode that will take players down a… well… river to enjoy the beautiful scenery. However, that doesn’t mean there won’t be some “uninvited machines” that try to get aboard.

Horizon Forbidden West Gets a Major Update that Includes New Game+

A new major update for Horizon Forbidden West will add Performance Mode, Transmog, a way to reset skills, Ultra Hard Difficulty, New Game+, New Game+ Trophies, and more. The update will also ad a new Herbalist vendor and improved Temporal Anti-Aliasing.

    Oh, and it’s out now!

Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered and Spider-Man: Miles Morales Will Swing to PC in 2022

While fans may have to wait a bit to play Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 from Insomniac Games, a new version of Spider-Man Remastered will be swinging its way to PC on August 12, 2022, to help with that wait.

Spider-Man: Miles Morales will also be released on PC, but fans will have to wait until later this fall.

No Man’s Sky Will Fly Its Way to PlayStation VR2

No Man’s Sky’s surprises continue as Hello Games confirmed it will be making a version of its space exploration title for PlayStation VR 2. There is already a version available for PSVR, but PSVR2 will only make the endless expanse of space even more impressive.

Season: A Letter to the Future Will Be Released in Autumn 2022

Season: A Letter to the Future takes place in a “village safe from the turmoil of changing seasons.” One day, a woman named Estelle decides to leave and embarks on a journey to explore a world on the brink of change.

As for the gameplay, Season is all about “exploring, recording, meeting people, and unravelling the strange world around you.” Players will also travel around on a bike and use tools to learn about this world you’ve never known before.

The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners Chapter 2: Retribution Announced for PlayStation VR2

Get ready to face off against the undead when The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners Chapter 2: Retribution arrives on PSVR2 in 2023. If you can’t wait that long to go zombie hunting, this new chapter will be released on the original PSVR in late 2022.

This chapter is a “direct follow up to the first game” and brings with it a new story, new maps, new weapons, and more.

Eternights is a Dating-Action Game Set in the Apocalypse

The worlds of dungeon crawling and dating are set to collide when Eternights arrives on PS5 and PS4 in early 2023. There will be five “quirky and loveable characters” to fall in love with, and you will be able to explore their backstories when you aren’t knee-deep in dungeons. There is also an ever-ticking clock that will force you to make choices and prioritize loot or love.

The ‘Futuristic Skater-Shooter’ Rollerdrome Skates to PS4 and PS5 this Fall From OlliOlliWorld’s Roll7

2030 doesn’t seem so far away and, if OlliOlliworld’s Roll7 had its way, that year would feature a “brutal new bloodsport” called Rollerdrome. In Rollerdrome, players will have to use skate skills and shooting skills to rise above the competition, and constantly moving and taking advantage of every ramp look to be the key to victory.

Tunic Jumps to PlayStation This September

Tunic was first released on Xbox and PC in March, and those who have yet to play as an adorable fox in a world inspired by The Legend of Zelda will have another chance to do so as Tunic will be released on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 on September 27, 2022.
