Kevin Feige Really Wanted to Resolve Whether Captain America Was a Virgin

Slight Spoilers Ahead for She-Hulk: Attorney at Law’s First Episode!

The question of whether Captain America was a virgin has been one of the bigger debates amongst MCU fans, and, thanks in large part to Marvel head Kevin Feige, She-Hulk: Attorney at Law has finally helped shed some light on the love life of the first Avenger.

In She-Hulk: Attorney at Law’s first episode, Tatiana Maslany’s Jennifer Walters and Mark Ruffalo’s Dr. Bruce Banner are in a car and they begin discussing Cap’s virginity question. Walters makes a case that, due to his knack for always having to save the world pre- and post-freeze, he never had the time to lose his virginity.

After initially declining to discuss the love life of his friend, Banner eventually reveals that “Steve Rogers is not a virgin. He lost his virginity to a girl in 1943 on the USO tour.”

As reported by THR, She-Hulk showrunner Jessica Gao was speaking to io9 when she shared that Feige was all for exploring this question and finally putting the debate to the proverbial bed.

“Kevin was really into that joke and he actually was the one who volunteered the answer to that question,” Gao said. “I couldn’t believe that we got to definitively settle that issue once and for all.”

Gao also talked about how the writing team’s philosophy on She-Hulk was to not only explore the topics MCU fans had been trying to answer, but also to ask for forgiveness as opposed to permission and push the boundaries as to what questions could be tackled.

“Our philosophy was really just like let’s just do things until they tell us we can’t because if you start asking for permission too much, then you’re giving people a chance to say no,” Gao said.

While he didn’t reveal the answer, Captain America actor Chris Evans did talk about this topic in 2014 with Vanity Fair, saying, “Cap puts what he wants last. That’s his M.O., and I think for so long he just refuses to bleed on people. So it’s hard to explore a guy who doesn’t want to make waves with his own personal conflict.”

“It’s funny when you think about it,” Evans continued. “He’s probably a virgin. He’s probably a virgin! I don’t know when it would’ve happened.”

Evans concluded by sharing that he believes Cap probably was holding out for Peggy Carter, but he left a little room for a special dancing girl.

“He was on tour. Maybe, that’s true,” Evans said. “Maybe one of those [dancing] girls blew his mind.” He laughed, and added: “He’s probably just a good guy. He was probably holding out for Peggy Carter and he’s probably a little more old-fashioned in that sense. These are a lot of things that I think are giant conflicts, but they’re also very personal conflicts. He’s a very human guy. That’s why I like him.”

More recently, Evans tweeted a response to the conversation in She-Hulk, and he let emojis do the talking.

Ruffalo didn’t hesitate to respond either, saying, “Sorry bro. It was under extreme duress.”
