    Birding tour

The Redwood Region Audubon Society will offer a free guided birding tour along the Eureka Waterfront Trail Jan. 21 from 9 to 11 a.m.

This relatively urban trail offers the potential to observe species abundance and diversity compared to many more remote locations. Keep an eye and ear out for cormorants, loons, grebes and even otters diving for their meals in the bay alongside the trail.

This walk is on a flat, paved trail that is wheelchair accessible. Email trip leader Ralph Bucher to sign up to attend at thebook@reninet.com.

    Swedish pancakes

A Swedish pancake breakfast will be served Jan. 21 from 8:30 to 11 a.m. at the Moose Lodge, 4328 Campton Road, Eureka. The cost is $10.

To attend, call Pierson’s at 707-441-2713.

There are several other demonstrations coming up on Saturday mornings, all starting at 10 a.m. Each nursery would appreciate, but does not require, a call so that adequate seating will be available.
