    Horse fun

The Blue Lake Saddle Club and Blue Lake City Parks and Recreation will present an event celebrating the magic of horses, “A Winter Wonderland Horse Story Tour,” on Dec. 16.

Doors open at 4 p.m., and there will be horse stories from 5 to 7 p.m.

This event is being held at Blue Lake City Hall, Prasch Hall and the Museum Strip. It’s free and will also include music, a toy exchange, holiday market, gnome adventure, blacksmithing and to meet Santa.

    Dell’Arte fundraiser

“Viva Dell’Arte! A Commedia Feast,” a gala fundraiser for Dell’Arte International, is set for Dec. 17 from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Carlo Theatre, 131 H St., Blue Lake, and the Mad River Grange 110 Hatchery Road.

The Dell’Arte Company will bring together physical comedy and entertainment for this one-night-only gala dinner and silent auction fundraiser “charivari” (a celebratory noisy mock serenade) of food, drinks, live music, performances, celebratory stories and more.

Familiar commedia characters will — between performances — serve folks farm-to-table food from Brett Shuler Fine Catering, complemented with local wines and beverages. A silent auction is also planned, with the auction continuing online for two weeks after the festivities.

At 4:30 p.m., there will be wine and hors d’oeuvres at the Carlo. This will be a chance to view silent auction items and enjoy Dell’Arte antics.

At 5:30 p.m., dinner will be served at Mad River Grange, accompanied by music, commedia and storytelling. At 7 p.m., everyone will head back to the theater for dessert and a fun-filled commedia performance. (Note: Commedia dell’arte is an improvisational, interactive and physical form of live theater that is full-flavored, robust and, at times, a little spicy on the palate.)

Tickets are available at https://dellarte.com/support-us/viva-dellarte-gala/ or by calling 707-502-2108.

    Santa photos

“Photos With Santa. You Snap” will take place Dec. 22 from 4 to 8 p.m. and Dec. 23 from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Historic Eagle House, Second and C streets, Eureka.

This is a free community event. There will also be a hot chocolate bar for the kids and Phatsy’s bar will be open for the adults. For more information, email events@historiceaglehouse.com.

    New Year’s Ball

The Redwood Raks Collective invites the public to an “All Ages New Year’s Ball” Dec. 31 from 6 p.m. to midnight Dec. 31 at the Redwood Raks Studio, 824 L St., Arcata.

The event features an opportunity to dance swing, Latin, blues, fusion, top 40 — and live music with the College of the Redwoods Jazz Band. Snacks and non-alcoholic drinks will be available to purchase. Admission is $10 at the door.

There will be a special event for families with young children with music, dress-up and a balloon drop at 9 p.m. Admission is $20 per family.
