Real Housewives: RHONY Cast Reboot, New Show With Ex-Cast Greenlit

    0

After a messy and low-rated 13th season of the iconic “Real Housewives of New York City,” which concluded in September without even holding a reunion, Bravo’s “Housewives” braintrust decided to regroup. Fixing this important cornerstone of the franchise was, after all, crucial for the network. This week, Andy Cohen — the longtime executive producer of “The Real Housewives” — unveiled the team’s radical new plan in an exclusive interview with Variety.

The two-part strategy “takes into account everything that our passionate audience has really been telling us over the last year,” Cohen said, and involves “rebooting and recasting” the series, most likely from scratch, and launching a second “RHONY” series featuring former stars.

“You know that we’re at a crossroads for ‘RHONY,’” Cohen said. “We’ve spent a lot of time figuring out where to go. And the plan that we’ve come up with, I think, is a real gift to the fans.”

Bravo’s first priority is to fix the mothership — a challenge Cohen looks forward to enthusiastically. “There are thousands of stories to tell here,” he said. “This is the most multicultural, diverse, and energetic and exciting city in America: We are searching for a multicultural group of friends who really best reflect the most exciting city in the country. We’re looking for a group of women who are real friends, and who are of diverse backgrounds, races and religions.”

But “RHONY” has been a Bravo mainstay since it premiered in 2008 and quickly became part of the zeitgeist, so in an effort not to throw away what’s worked for so many years, Cohen simultaneously announced a second “Real Housewives of New York City” that will feature ex-cast members from the original show over the years.

Though there’s no official title for this show yet, Cohen said it’s being referred to internally as “RHONY: Throwback” or “RHONY: Legacy.” As his in-depth interview with Variety below makes clear, Cohen declined to say who might be on that show, but does expect Jill Zarin to be the first person to call him. Affecting a perfect Zarin imitation, Cohen said, “Jill is gonna be, like, ‘Am I getting my apple back?’” As for where the two shows will air, Cohen said that the “RHONY” reboot is “being developed and produced for Bravo,” but he thinks it’s a “question mark where the throwback will air” since Peacock is an option.

In Season 13, “The Real Housewives of New York City” was quite literally plagued. Because of COVID restrictions in the city in fall 2020 and winter 2021, the smaller-than-usual cast of five women — which for the first time in “RHONY” history included a Black cast member, Eboni K. Williams — traveled from empty restaurants to empty homes, having fraught conversations about race and politics. Its joylessness was reflected in the season’s low ratings, and an already difficult-to-schedule reunion was scrapped when the network wondered whether viewers would even want to watch one.

An obvious question for the rebooted “RHONY” is whether Williams — who was popular with some segments of the audience, but less so with others — might be an anchor of the new show. “We are interviewing multiple groups of friends,” Cohen said. “So certainly if Eboni is interested and has friends that would meet our casting goals, then of course they would be considered.”

Of course, “The Real Housewives of Atlanta,” typically the most highly rated series in the “Housewives” portfolio, and the popular “Real Housewives of Potomac,” both feature entirely Black casts. But Cohen said he doubts the new “RHONY” will go that way: “I think it will be the rainbow that is New York City. That’s the goal.”

With the new “throwback” edition, Cohen said that the “Housewives” creative team learned key lessons from “The Real Housewives Ultimate Girls Trip,” which brought together cast members from different franchises, and launched on Peacock in mid-November. With this new series, though, the women will be filmed in their lives in New York rather than sent to an island somewhere.

“Our loyal fans have spoken as to what they want to see and what they don’t want to see — and we’ve taken that all into account,” he said. “And this is a series where you’re going to expect to see fan-favorites from the show’s great history.

“It’s organic, you know?” Cohen continued. “They were in each other’s lives, and they are in each other’s lives.” He wants the fantasy casting to begin: “We’re looking at people who are beloved by fans.”

Cohen’s use of “beloved” would suggest that Ramona Singer — an OG cast member from “RHONY” who’s become an increasingly divisive figure in recent years — will not be a part of the throwback. But Cohen and a Bravo spokesperson said official casting hasn’t even begun, and wouldn’t elaborate further on Singer specifically.

Cohen isn’t worried about casting the throwback show; it’s the “RHONY” reboot he’s focused on, and he sounded gleeful when discussing it.

“I’ve got to tell you that in my almost 20 years working with Bravo, to me, this is the most exciting casting proposition that I’ve been involved with,” he said. “We are quite literally looking for who will be the new ‘Real Housewives of New York City!’ And I think this represents a tremendous opportunity for a rebirth of the show. What we’re looking for is everything that makes a great Housewife: fun, opinionated, successful, aspirational women who represent a side of New York that we want to see more of.”

Cohen discussed the particulars of the relaunch of “The Real Housewives of New York City” and its new sibling show.

How is the casting working, generally speaking? Like, how do you find groups of friends?

Part of why we really wanted to announce this before it happened is that we want to hear from people. This is a major casting search. We’re going to be casting all over Manhattan and the boroughs — part of the search is spreading the word. And when you start from scratch, “Beverly Hills” was a really successful Season 1 cast, “Jersey” was a really successful Season 1 cast, “Salt Lake City” was a really successful Season 1 cast. Those were people who were in each other’s lives, who knew each other, who were relatives. That’s one of the things that is going to be fun about this. Because when we find people that we love, we can say, “Who are your friends? Who else is in your life?”

I’ve talked both to you and to Shari Levine about this in the past — when Bravo started integrating previously all-white “Real Housewives” casts, it was hard in New York in particular. How do you incentivize a woman of color who’s seen what other women of color have gone through to say, “Yes, I want to do this”?

I think that it will make it better if they’re going on with their friends or people that are in their lives. Listen, there are two types of people: people who want to be on this show and who don’t want to be on this show. I think if the door’s partly open toward the conversation, and you say, “We love your best friend, too, and we love your cousin,” then I think it becomes more of a, “Oh, wow, let’s all do this together, and this will be great.”

Diversifying the “Housewives” has gone well for “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills,” and with “Salt Lake City” and the “Miami” reboot from their starts. For “Dallas,” it turned into a disaster that’s ended the show for now — and it didn’t go great for “New York” either. Tell me what you’ve learned about successful inclusive casting in the past few years.

One of the things that makes these shows such a success is that they’re about real people with real connections, and their interactions. The thing we always come back to is that our greatest successes — and certainly one of the things that resonated with “RHONY” in the past — is featuring women who had relationships before joining the show, and we’re going to focus on that going forward.

Switching to the “RHONY” throwback show, do you know who in particular you might want on it?

    In my mind, I do.

Let’s just say, because they’re still beloved and were on last season, Sonja Morgan and Luann de Lesseps.

I don’t really want to get into specifics about specific women. Because then it’s like, “Oh, well, he said yes to these two…” The answer is: Sonja and Luann have been a part of the show — for Luann, from the beginning, and Sonja since Season 3. So I think, in theory, sure!

I could talk to you about hypothetical situations involving a lot of people that used to be on the show. I think the good news is, that’s a group that’s all still in each other’s lives.

I know you are focusing on the reboot first, but is Bethenny Frankel a potential cast member for the throwback show?

Listen, I go back with Bethenny since the beginning. She’s moved to Connecticut, but she’s still in the Hamptons. Her life is now evolved to another place, so I can’t imagine her wanting to do it. But of course, you know, I never turn down a conversation with Bethenny about coming back.

Do you have a goal for when to start shooting the rebooted “RHONY”?

No, I feel like we want to get the cast right. We just want to get it right. So that’s the focus right now. I don’t want to back into a production date. Because I want this to succeed; it’s too important to too many people.

Going back to last season of “RHONY,” when did you realize that the show wasn’t working?

I think that we’ve put last season of “RHONY” under so much scrutiny and trial that I hate to rehash. When we were shooting, we only had five Housewives, we were shooting during COVID, we were tremendously limited as to where we could shoot. And this was a show that was really shot differently than all the other cities, because New York City is very much a huge character in the show.

That all aside, I think that if you look at any series, where the ratings are declining week to week as the series goes on, and the viewer feedback is growing disenchanted on social media, etc. — I think that was a big red flag for us. Because this is a beloved show. And that’s part of the reason why it’s taken a bit for us to just sit with this and figure out how we want to make this right, and make it a gift to the fans, which I think this will wind up being.

The finale was in September, you knew there were problems before that. So I assume this was a long, thought-out process.

It’s been long and thought out, but in truth, we really just started having the most serious conversations over the last few months. Because we also just wanted to sit and get some air and recalibrate. This is a show that’s gone back into production very closely after the reunion every year. That’s why we also just wanted to give everybody a minute to live their lives. And then it let us figure it out, if we could do anything — which we can — what would we do?

We’ve also seen the success of “Ultimate Girls Trip.” That informed the idea of doing this throwback, that’s allowed us to say, “Well, wait a minute, there is a big desire for an element of nostalgia.”

And I heard from more people over the last two years that they have rewatched “RHONY” from the beginning, and how much they love early seasons of “RHONY.” I just think there are a lot of people who hold this particular franchise very dear to their hearts, and also have a lot of nostalgia about it. I think that this throwback version will be playing on that. This is why I think both ideas are a gift to the fans.

We’re totally revitalizing “RHONY” with the energy and spirit of the of the city of New York, and bringing it up to date, while also giving the fans the gift of being able to visit with their old friends.

The women who were on “RHONY” last season, have they been agitating? Do you hear from them frequently?

I was hearing from them a lot last year. But I have to say, especially given that this group is usually a group that is very like, “When are we starting? What’s the plan?” You know, they’re aggressive! And they’re Type A. They’ve really all respected the fact that we’re gonna figure this out, and we’ll let you know. So they’ve been very relaxed, especially considering that this is a group of people that I would not necessarily typically characterize as relaxed.

Can you talk more about how Peacock and the success of “Ultimate Girls Trip” — with the fans, at least, since the ratings aren’t reported — opens up new doors for “The Real Housewives” franchise?

“Ultimate Girls Trip” was really a smash hit. And it allowed us to see, “Oh, we can have this other universe going. And it’s not going to cannibalize the original.” It made the pitch of doing this throwback version — like you could see it. In another year, it might have seemed gluttonous or odd about whether there was an appetite for “The Real Housewives of New York” and “Real Housewives of New York: Throwback.” But I think this just gives us more options and more places to put it, the throwback version.

And when you think about the early days of “RHONY,” and what was missing last season, what do you — as both the executive producer and a fan of the shows — want to see in the new cast?

I want us to find five new stars that nobody’s ever heard of, who have real connections to each other. Who are friends. I want it to be fun! I want it to be funny. I want it to tick the boxes for everything that we love about the “Housewives.” They’re fun, they’re outspoken, they’re dramatic. They’re aspirational. They’re successful, they’re opinionated. And they’re their own group. We’ve been telling the story really well of this group of women for a long time. Which, by the way, if you really look at it over 13 seasons, very little turnover.

Was there ever a scenario in which you might have maybe brought back Luann and Sonja and Eboni, and then cast three or four new women? A reboot like the one that happened in Season 5?

I mean, we talked about everything. There were people who really wanted: Let’s just totally start over. And then there were people who were like, “Wait a minute, but what about this group that we’ve invested 13 years in?” I think that’s why this is really listening to everybody.

When you talk about wanting the fans to have input on both of these shows, especially the throwback version, how do you actually figure out what people are saying?

We have a pretty active research department at Bravo. So I will say when research comes to the programming execs, it’s usually not that surprising given what we’re already hearing.

People call me Bravo Andy, and they either blame me or applaud me for everything that happens on Bravo, whether I have something to do with it or not. So I feel especially connected to the audience. I do a Q&A with the “Watch What Happens Live” audience every night before the show, and I hear opinions every night. I feel like a walking focus group that I’m listening to, just based on what’s coming at me all day long.

Arvind Kejriwal Goes All-In Against BJP Over Delhi MCD Polls

    0

Arvind Kejriwal again attacked the BJP over the “postponement” of municipal elections in Delhi

    New Delhi:

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday dared the BJP to “get the civic polls in the city held on time” and win it, saying his Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) will quit politics if so happens.

The BJP is now getting municipal corporation elections in the city cancelled, he alleged and expressed apprehension that the same may be done for the state and national-level elections in the future.

The AAP national convener’s remarks came a day after the Union Cabinet approved a Bill to unify the three civic bodies in Delhi — North, East and South.

“The BJP claims to be the biggest political party in the world, yet it is scared of a small party like AAP and small MCD elections in Delhi.

“I dare the BJP to get the polls held timely and win it. We will leave politics,” Mr Kejriwal said. The BJP is ruling the three corporations in Delhi since 2007.

The chief minister appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi with “folded hands”, to protect Constitution and democracy.

“Leaders like you and I don’t matter. This country, its constitution and democracy matter. They must be protected.”

Pulling no punches, he alleged the BJP first “coerced” the State Election Commission to defer elections and was now on track to “delay” them for months through an amendment.

“About deferring the elections, the BJP argued that it wants to unify the three civic bodies. Is this even a valid ground to postpone the polls?” Kejriwal asked.

“The Gujarat elections are up next. Will they now write to the Election Commission asking them to defer Gujarat elections arguing they want to merge the state with Maharashtra? If they feel like losing the Lok Sabha elections, will they tell the EC that they want to establish a presidential system so elections can’t take place?” he asked derisively.

The AAP national convener said there will be no point in having democracy if elections are cancelled as it will make people feel voiceless and suppressed.

“Everyone knows the BJP is facing a crushing defeat in the upcoming MCD elections.

“To save itself from such a humiliation at the hands of the AAP, the BJP first coerced the State Election Commission into deferring the MCD polls. They are now bringing an amendment that shall put away the elections for several months,” Mr Kejriwal charged.

The whole country was observing Shahid Diwas and paying tribute to Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev and Rajguru. Deferring the elections was an “insult to martyrs”, he said.

“Did Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh laid down his life for this day? Did he sacrifice all he had to see a country where a government is so distant from its people that it cancels elections?” he asked.

Mr Kejriwal warned the BJP that the people “will never forgive it for cancelling an election and taking away their basic right of electing representatives”.

Rent jumped 17% since last year, hitting a new record

    0

The national median rent was $1,792 last month, up 17% from a year ago, according to a report from Realtor.com. Rent for studio apartments, one bedrooms and two bedrooms all saw double-digit increases over the past year.

February marked the seventh-straight month of rents soaring by double-digit percentages, after rents cratered in some of the biggest cities during the pandemic.

“With rents up by nearly 20% over the past two years, rental prices are likely to remain high, but we do expect some cooling from the recent accelerated pace,” said Danielle Hale, chief economist at Realtor.com.

In some cities, the rent increases have been staggering. Miami saw the fastest growth, with the median rental price spiking 55% in February from a year ago, making it the least affordable market of the top 50 cities, according to the report.

Cities that saw the smallest rent increases were Cleveland, Minneapolis and Detroit, where rents were up by just 6% or less in February from a year ago.

San Jose, California, remains the most expensive place to rent, with a median rent of $3,024 a month, followed by San Diego, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Miami and New York City.

“With rents surging nationwide, February data indicates that many renters’ budgets may be stretched beyond the affordability limit,” said Hale.

    Sun Belt rents rising fastest

The Sun Belt continues to attract new residents drawn by its relative affordability, attractive lifestyle and an increased ability to work remotely. As a result, all 10 of the fastest-growing rental markets are in the southern tier of the US, including four in Florida.

After Miami, the cities with the biggest annual rent jumps were Orlando and Tampa, Florida; Austin, Texas; San Diego; Las Vegas; Phoenix; Jacksonville, Florida; Memphis, Tennessee; and San Antonio, Texas — all with rent surges of 23% or more.

Rent growth is being driven up by an increase in demand, particularly from young renters, many of whom may have been priced out of buying a home, according to the report.
Although buying a starter home is more affordable than renting one in a city like Miami, the report showed, home prices there are rising and mortgage rates are climbing, with purchase prices up 31.6% in February from a year ago.
“In light of mounting economic uncertainties and the conflict in Ukraine, some households will prefer to buy, in an effort to lock in a largely fixed monthly payment as a hedge against further inflation,” said Hale. “But fast-rising mortgage rates and still-limited numbers of homes for sale could mean some would-be buyers may stick with the flexibility of renting. With rental demand already outmatching supply, rental affordability will remain a challenge.”

Rents taking a bigger share of income

A general rule of thumb is to keep monthly housing costs at 30% or less of monthly income. But even if wages are rising in some industries, rents are up a lot more — and taking up a larger share of monthly income.

Sun Belt cities experiencing strong inbound migration are some of the least affordable places to rent, based on a Realtor.com analysis.

As the least affordable city to rent, Miami’s median rent is $2,929 a month, which takes up nearly 60% of the median monthly income, making renters there heavily cost burdened.

Manhattan rents rise to an all-time high

The rental share of income was over 30% in 14 of the top 50 cities, including Los Angeles, where rent took up 46% of monthly income; followed by Riverside, California, at 45.9% and Tampa, Florida, at 44.7%.

Meanwhile, cities determined to be most affordable were places where rent was going up, but not eating up more than 30% of the median income. Kansas City was the most affordable city to rent, the analysis found. Although rent there jumped 11% in February from a year ago, the median rent of $1,216 a month ate up only 20% of the median income. Other affordable cities included Oklahoma City, Denver, St. Louis and Washington, DC.

Bone density study confirms watery lifestyle of ‘ominous’ Spinosaurus

    0

WASHINGTON, March 23 (Reuters) – Spinosaurus, the largest-known carnivorous dinosaur, and its closest relatives long have confounded scientists trying to understand how these unusual water-loving beasts lived their lives and hunted prey. Did they wade into rivers and lakes like a heron? Or did they swim underwater like a hippo or croc?

It turns out that the answer was in their bones – their bone density, to be precise. Scientists said on Wednesday that Spinosaurus and its cousin Baryonyx possessed extremely compact bones that would have helped them stay submerged for underwater swimming as semiaquatic predators targeting large prey.

Both were members of a Cretaceous Period dinosaur group called spinosaurids that boasted anatomical adaptations such as elongated crocodile-like snouts and conical teeth for hunting aquatic prey. But the researchers found that another spinosaurid called Suchomimus lacked dense bones and likely was a wading predator – showing an unexpected degree of ecological diversity within this group.

Register now for FREE unlimited access to Reuters.com

Spinosaurus, about 50 feet (15 meters) long and weighing seven tons, lived 95 million years ago in Africa. Its anatomy was unlike any other dinosaur, with a relatively small pelvis, short hind legs, paddle-like tail and feet for propulsion in the water and a curious sail-like structure of bony spines 7 feet (2 meters) tall on its back.

“I think this animal is simply weird: we have nothing alive today that could be considered remotely similar,” said Matteo Fabbri, a postdoctoral researcher in paleontology at the Field Museum in Chicago and lead author of the study published in the journal Nature.

“I really like the idea of this giant animal, weighing many tons, submerging under water to catch prey. It is striking to me that it has a giant sail-crest on its back. That would have made it hard for it to hide under water, but much more ominous: a bit like a shark fin poking above the water line,” said University of Oxford paleontologist and study co-author Roger Benson.

Baryonyx, 33 feet (10 meters) long, lived 125 million years ago in Europe. Suchomimus, 36 feet (11 meters) long, lived 120 million years ago in Africa.

In determining that greater bone density is directly associated with an aquatic existence, the researchers amassed data on 297 species of living and extinct animals, land-dwellers and water-dwellers.

Bone compactness was found to be a defining characteristic in animals adapted for life in the water such as whales, seals, dugongs, hippopotamuses, crocodiles, penguins and various extinct marine reptiles. No other dinosaurs were found with the bone density of Spinosaurus and Baryonyx, indicating they were alone among dinosaurs in conquering the aquatic realm.

“Spinosaurus has the highest bone density among the three,” Fabbri said. “Baryonyx has a slightly lower bone density, but still very similar to Spinosaurus. Suchomimus, found as a more terrestrial animal in our study, has a bone density similar to other terrestrial dinosaurs, reptiles and mammals.”

Spinosaurus exceeds even Tyrannosaurus rex in size, but its anatomy has long puzzled scientists. Its original fossils from Egypt were destroyed during World War Two. But the discovery of a skeleton in Morocco in 2008 and additional tail bones dug up subsequently led some paleontologists to propose that Spinosaurus was semiaquatic and an active swimmer. Other researchers looking at the same fossils disagreed.

The new study was launched to try to settle the debate.

Big fish in rivers and lakes as well as dinosaurs walking along their banks may have been appealing prey for Spinosaurus.

“Spinosaurus was perhaps moving along shallow waters using a combination of ‘bottom-walking’ – like modern hippos – and lateral strokes of its giant tail,” said University of Cambridge postdoctoral researcher and study co-author Guillermo Navalón. “Probably used this means of locomotion not to pursue prey for long distances in open waters but to ambush and catch very large fish like lungfishes or coelacanths.”

Terron Armstead to sign with Dolphins: Takeaways as former Saints OT reportedly agrees to five-year deal

    0
    Nathan Ray Seebeck-USA TODAY Sports

The Miami Dolphins needed to make an addition on the offensive line to protect quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, and this front office did just that. Former New Orleans Saints left tackle Terron Armstead has agreed to a five-year, $75 million deal with Miami, per NFL Media’s Tom Pelissero. The deal includes $43.37 million guaranteed, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, and has a max of $87.5 million with incentives.

Armstead’s average annual value of $15 million is tied with Taylor Decker of the Detroit Lions for 12th in the NFLper Spotrac

One interesting caveat concerning Armstead’s decision in free agency is that he won’t be Tagovailoa’s blind-side blocker if he remains on the left side because the young signal-caller is left-handed. Armstead topped CBS Sports’ list of best available free agents, as he was the top tackle in this free agency class. While Armstead played in just eight games in 2021 due to injury, he registered a 75.9 PFF grade while allowing just one sack, two QB hits and 12 pressures in 263 pass-blocking snaps.

Originally drafted in the third round out of Arkansas-Pine Bluff in 2013, Armstead has made three Pro Bowls over the last four seasons. Injuries have been an issue, however, as he’s never played a full season in nine years.

Armstead is not the only starting offensive lineman Miami has signed this offseason, as the Dolphins snagged guard Connor Williams from the Dallas Cowboys. With new offensive-minded head coach Mike McDaniel, the Dolphins have added plenty to that side of the ball in running backs Chase Edmonds and Raheem Mostert, and wide receiver Ced Wilson. However, McDaniel understands that successful offensive play hinges on quarterback protection, and his front office scored a huge piece in Armstead.

    • Miami’s offensive line problems: The Dolphins needed to overhaul their offensive line this offseason if they want to compete. PFF listed them as the worst unit in the league at the end of the 2021 season, as they surrendered a league-high 235 pressures. It not only affected the Dolphins’ play-calls with their quarterbacks having to get rid of the ball quickly, but also has affected Tagovailoa and his development. In Week 2 vs. the Buffalo Bills, Tagovailoa took a brutal sack that resulted in several fractured ribs after Jesse Davis was beaten off the edge right after the ball was snapped. If you keep him upright, he should improve — and so should this team at large.
    • Dolphins’ draft plans: Could this addition change the Dolphins’ draft plans? Honestly, it’s too tough to tell. Miami holds the No. 29 overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, which means they can go several different ways depending on how the board falls to them. CBS Sports NFL Draft expert Chris Trapasso still believes the Dolphins go offensive line, as he has them taking Northern Iowa offensive lineman Trevor Penning in his mock draft published on Wednesday
    • What will the Saints do now?: The Saints always knew losing Armstead in free agency was a possibility, so they should have given some thought to a contingency plan. There are some options in free agency such as Duane Brown and Eric Fisher, but the Saints could also look to use their first-round pick on a new left tackle. At No. 18 overall, the aforementioned Penning could be in play for New Orleans. There’s also Tyler Smith from Tulsa, who could be a left tackle at the next level.

Hair Care Tips: 8 Healthy Nutrients To Add To Your Diet For Healthy Hair – Expert Recommends

    0

Weather is on a transition mode right now. The cold winter season has officially come to an end, making way for long summer days. While the nature is at its best phase during this time of the year, it also brings along several skin and hair-related issues. Season change often makes our hair dry and undernourished, leading to excessive hair fall. During this time of the year, you might notice some more strands in your brush after combing or clogged shower drain. This is why experts suggest taking extra care of your hair during the change of season. While you might find multiple advises on the internet on what to apply to get strong and nourished hair, we believe, it all starts with a healthy diet. That’s right. A balanced diet, with every essential nutrient in it, helps strengthen overall health and nourish us (and our hair) from within. It seems celebrity nutritionist Lovneet Batra also has the same opinion.

Lovneet Batra recently took to her Instagram to speak at length about how to take care of our hair. And she began by saying, “A healthy diet and proper care can keep your mane a head above the rest.” Alongside, she also listed the essential nutrients (and their food sources) that can help boost healthy and nourished hair. Let’s take a look.

Here Are 8 Essential Nutrients To Add To Your Hair Care Diet:

    1. Vitamin A:

It helps our hair to stay moisturized. Vitamin A also helps in hair growth. Foods that are rich in vitamin A include sweet potato, pumpkin etc.

    2. B-Vitamins:

B-vitamins help carry oxygen and nutrients to your scalp, aiding hair growth. Some of the most common food ingredients rich in B-vitamins are whole grains, banana, legumes etc.

U.S. Stocks Decline, Oil Prices Jump

    0

U.S. stocks fell and oil prices jumped, as concerns about rising energy prices, supply shortages and inflation rattled investors once again.

The S&P 500 ticked down 0.5% in morning trading Wednesday, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 0.4%. The tech-focused Nasdaq Composite Index lost 1%. Major U.S. stock indexes jumped Tuesday, as investors shrugged off worries that inflation will push the nation’s economy into a recession.

On Wednesday, however, some of that confidence faded after Brent crude, the international benchmark, moved higher again. Futures on Brent crude recently traded at $121.60 a barrel, up 5.3%. In trading before the opening bell, futures for U.S. stock indexes wavered and then ticked lower, with losses deepening as oil prices jumped.

Oil prices rose after Russia said on Tuesday that oil exports via a pipeline from Kazakhstan to the Black Sea may temporarily fall by around 1 million barrels a day—representing about 1% of global oil demand—citing storm damage. Repairs could take up to two months, Russian officials said.

“Things will stay highly sensitive to the events unfolding in Ukraine,” said

    Susannah Streeter,

senior investment and markets analyst at Hargreaves Lansdown, noting that sharp moves in energy prices will continue to weigh heavily on indexes. “There is still real pressure on oil prices that is adding to inflationary concerns.”

Commodities were snapping higher across the board on a range of issues that threatened to pinch supply chains. Aluminum, nickel and steel prices rose on concerns ranging from the war in Ukraine to Covid-19 lockdowns in China. Tangshan, the biggest steelmaking city in China, told residents to stay home due to a Covid-19 surge, according to Reuters. The city accounts for 58% of China’s strip-steel output, SP Angel said in a Wednesday note.

A sharp rally in U.S. government bond yields slowed. The yield on the 10-year U.S. Treasury note edged lower to 2.357% in recent trading, from 2.375% the day before. Yields on U.S. government bonds zoomed higher this week after Federal Reserve Chairman

    Jerome Powell

said the central bank was prepared to raise interest rates in half-percentage-point steps if needed to tame inflation. Yields climb when bond prices fall.

Russia’s stock market is set to have a partial reopening Thursday, almost a month after it closed trading following the country’s invasion of Ukraine. Investors and analysts expect that the reopening could send Russian stocks into free fall.

In recent days, global markets seemed to have turned a corner, despite anxieties about mounting inflation and the war in Ukraine. The S&P 500 on Tuesday rose above its 200-day moving average after falling below it on Feb. 17, The benchmark index has advanced 1% or more in five of the last six sessions, bringing it up 8.1% over that period and erasing all of the losses seen since Russia invaded Ukraine.

Major indexes in Europe and Asia have seen similar moves.

The recent rally has come even as Russia’s attacks on Ukraine intensify, Western countries continue to pile on sanctions and pricing pressures show no signs of abating. On Wednesday, fresh data on inflation showed that consumer prices in the U.K. rose 6.2% in February compared with a year earlier, up from 5.5% in January, marking the highest rate since March 1992.

In European markets, the Stoxx Europe 600 lost 1.1%, erasing earlier gains once oil prices moved solidly higher. London’s FTSE 100 nudged down 0.1%. European oil giants

    Shell

    and

    BP

    each rose 3.3% or more.

In early trading in New York, shares of energy companies also moved higher.

    Occidental Petroleum,

    Exxon Mobil

    and

    Chevron

each gained nearly 2% or more.

Meanwhile, shares of meme stocks—which have largely slumped this year—enjoyed a resurgence. Shares of

    GameStop

climbed 10% after the company’s chairman,

    Ryan Cohen,

disclosed his firm bought 100,000 shares of the company’s stock on Tuesday. Shares of

    AMC Entertainment Holdings,

which tend to move in correlation with GameStop, climbed 4.9%.

    Shares of

    Adobe

slumped 8.1%. The software company reported higher profit and better-than-expected revenue growth Tuesday, but said it expects a hit to annual revenue from the war in Ukraine.

Traders worked on the floor of the New York Stock Exchange on Tuesday.

In European bond markets, the yield on the benchmark 10-year German bund traded around 0.497% after topping 0.5% this week. The last time it traded around that level was the fall of 2018.

Other signs emerged Wednesday that investors were eyeing assets they perceive as safer. The ICE U.S. Dollar index, which tracks the currency against a basket of others, rose 0.2% in recent trading. Gold prices advanced 0.4%.

In Asia, major indexes finished higher. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng gained 1.2%, while Japan’s Nikkei 225 jumped 3%. China’s Shanghai Composite advanced 0.3%.

Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands review: TTRPGs make Borderlands fun again

    0

Since the pandemic began, tabletop role-playing games have been having a moment, and actual-play performances of TTRPGs are having their moment within that. By good timing alone, Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands, the Borderlands spinoff set in an off-the-rails, fourth-wall-crumbling D&D-style campaign, has bullseyed two pop culture trends in one shot. It’s lucky, sure. It’s also pretty good.

It’s also a refreshing reintroduction to the things that made Borderlands such a personal obsession for me back in 2009. When the franchise debuted that autumn, Gears of War creator Cliff Bleszinski hailed Borderlands as “Diablo for a generation raised on first-person shooters.” Thirteen years later, they’ve perfected that vision by giving the franchise a richly detailed, high fantasy veneer, inside a canonically consequence-free science-fiction wrapper.

In case story matters to you — and if it does, you might be in the wrong department — Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands puts the player in a pencil-and-paper campaign under the direction of Tina, the adolescent munitions expert introduced in Borderlands 2, leering behind the DM’s screen. A couple of transitions, from the mental space of the bright and colorful Wonderlands to the fluorescent bowels of a crippled spacecraft, quickly establish the idea that everyone is role-playing to pass the time until they’re rescued. All of this has anchors in Borderlands 2’s unexpectedly delightful expansion Tiny Tina’s Assault on Dragon’s Keep, in which the mischievous NPC also administers a game of “Bunkers & Badasses.”

    Image: Gearbox Software/2K Games

For Wonderlands, players get Borderlands with an even bigger B&B treatment. While the strangely medieval guns, and their amusing reload animations, play as big and necessary a role as ever, melee attacks really shine as a tactic of first choice, more than a right-stick-click of last resort. Magic spells substitute for grenades and, thanks to your enemies’ instant and constant aggravation, are used much more frequently, and in closer quarters.

It’s a lot of fun. Elsewhere in the Borderlands series, if an enemy made it within melee or point-blank range, I felt like I’d failed in my ambition of being a marksman or an assault trooper. In Wonderlands, they get to meet the broadsword, kama, or morningstar I looted two levels ago. Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands ramps up the mobs’ rush attacks to encourage melee combat, which keeps encounters from breaking down into the kind of improvised cover-shooter stalemates I’ve seen in the first three games.

Still, this is a Borderlands game, which means it’s a class-based shooter, even if all classes can avail themselves of all gear at all times. The difference, in Wonderlands, is that players get to make a dual-class choice after the first third of the campaign. It takes some reading between the lines to understand the classes’ strengths and weaknesses at first. I chose The Clawbringer because, parsing out the class’ base attributes and advantages (not the character’s appearance — that is fully customizable) it conformed to the paladin/cleric standard: lots of muscle, and spell-casting backed by blunt force trauma. The rest of the game’s mirthfully named classes easily revealed their D&D basic edition origins: The Spellshot is a magic-user (or a sniper, if you’re working from a guns assumption). The Stabbomancer is a thief, or an assassin, and so on.

A landscape in Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands

    Image: Gearbox Software/2K Games

Rather than remaking their build entirely, shrewd players can use their secondary class specialization to supplement their preferred offensive abilities. (And to capitalize on the 10 hours they’ve already spent playing.) . For example, I started as a Clawbringer, added Spellshot as my secondary class, and became a Warcaster. I used the Spellshot’s perk tree to increase the strength of my magical attacks and ammo regeneration, but ignored its special ability — dual-wielding spells, which would have taken the place of the Clawbringer’s overwhelming hammer-smash attack. In other words, I had the option of continuing with my tank-like Clawbringer path (which I did) or switching to a faster-paced, damage-per-second build with the Spellshot’s additional sorcery.

In any case, I never felt like I’d chosen either the weakest, or the safest path, to get through Tiny Tina’s zany and almost incoherent narrative. That said, the game’s major pivots are still governed by a kind of soft-gating, in which you’re expected to be within two levels of a major zone’s average enemies. This can send the player jaunting from a freshly opened part of the delightfully rendered Overworld (an interactive tabletop map, with landmarks improvised from bottlecaps, cheetos, and other debris) back to Mount Craw, or another part that the narrative has completely abandoned, just to rank up enough to move the main story forward.

In the end, though, Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands supports a wide-open, asynchronous, and asymmetrical exploration of its story and landscape by admitting, up front, that this is all a module in the hands of an emotionally adolescent sleepover host. Therefore, the overall story is a bog-standard tale of urgently retrieving a MacGuffin to save the realm — but refreshingly liberated from the ludonarrative dissonance of taking numerous desultory side quests. I can linger on any part of Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands because in the end, the story is about three friends killing time while their spacecraft awaits repairs.

By not taking its time or its space too seriously, the game leaves the player free to romp, roam, and plunder it likewise. Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands thus breathes new, weird life into a franchise that had become terminally rote, and reminds me why guns-meets-Diablo was the perfect obsession so many years ago.

Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands will be released on March 25 on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X. Ahead of the trailer’s release, Abhishek Bachchan shared an extensive note on what the film means to him. An excerpt from his post read, “I have always been very reticent to speak about my films, border-line apologetic about my work. People call it humility or lack of confidence in what I have made. I want to change that. I want to be unapologetic about this film. We have worked tremendously hard and I believe deeply that we’ve made a good film. A film worth watching with your family and friends. I’ve always been told, “let the work speak for itself”. I am sure Dasvi will. But, I too, want to manifest the positivity around this film.”

There’s a Stunning Detail Lurking in Juno’s Latest Pic of Jupiter

    0

The Juno probe has been tasked with studying a leviathan: Jupiter, the heavyweight of the Solar System, King of the Planets.

But a planet the size of Jupiter, nearly 318 times the mass of Earth, isn’t without its friends.

The gas giant has 79 known moons (and possibly more unknown), one of them even bigger than Mercury. Juno is exploring the relationship between some of those moons and their host planet – and sometimes, seeing them show up photobombing pictures of the Big Jupe itself.

The latest of these is so breathtaking, it almost looks like an artwork of science fiction. Jupiter looms large, its classic bands of roiling, swirling cloud and spot-like cyclones clearly visible on the southern hemisphere in the sunlight.

    (NASA/JPL-Caltech/SwRI/MSSS/AndreaLuck)

To the right of the giant planet, two relatively small specks sail serenely against the inky darkness. These are two of Jupiter’s four Galilean moons – the largest of its satellites, discovered by Galileo Galilei.

The two pictured here are the smaller of the four: Io, with an equatorial diameter of 3,643.2 kilometers (2,264 miles); and Europa, with an equatorial diameter of 3,121.6 kilometers (1,940 miles).

    jovian moons europa and io(NASA/JPL-Caltech/SwRI/MSSS/AndreaLuck)

Each of these moons is a fascinating target for study in its own right. Io is the most volcanically active body in the Solar System, speckled by over 400 active volcanoes on its surface. These are the result of internal gravitational stresses placed on the moon, not just by Jupiter, but by the three other Galilean moons

This volcanic activity results in Io’s atmosphere becoming rich in sulfur dioxide, spewed out by the volcanoes. That atmosphere constantly leaks, forming a plasma torus around Jupiter itself, which is channeled along magnetic fields lines to rain down onto Jupiter’s poles, generating permanent aurorae.

The constant spew of sulfur has also coated Io itself in various sulfur compounds, which give the moon its predominantly yellow hue.

Yellow moon with loads of speckles on the surfaceTrue-color image of Io. (NASA/JPL/University of Arizona)

Europa, meanwhile, is the target of interest in the search for life outside Earth. Beneath its pale, icy shell lurks an interior liquid ocean. Although the moon is far from the Sun, it, too, may be internally heated by gravitational stress.

If this is the case, then there may be hydrothermal vents at the floor of its global sea. Here on Earth, such vents are havens for food webs that rely not on photosynthesis, but chemosynthesis to survive: harnessing chemical reactions for food.

This has led astrobiologists to believe that, of all the worlds in the Solar System, ice moons like Europa and Saturn’s moon Enceladus may be the most likely places to find extraterrestrial life.

Juno will be making close flybys of these two very different worlds.

Europa, which is also the target of a dedicated mission scheduled for a 2024 launch, will be visited by the probe in September of this year. It will be the closest any probe has been to the moon in decades. Io, meanwhile, is scheduled for flybys in late 2023 and early 2024.
