Battlefront Classic Collection’ Is Steam’s 9th Worst-Scored Game Ever As Aspyr Issues New Statement

The launch of the Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection has been something of a mess, with players experiencing mass server issues at launch, and while some were fixed, others persist, alongside other, larger issues with the collection itself.

Now, developer Aspyr, once upon a time supposedly the studio that was going to remake KOTOR, has issued a statement about the issues that is not exactly comforting fans worried about the quality of the Collection. Here it is:

“We’d like to thank the Battlefront community for their overwhelming support and feedback for the STAR WARS™ Battlefront Classic Collection release.

At launch, we experienced critical errors with our network infrastructure. The result was incredibly high ping, matchmaking errors, crashes, and servers not appearing in the browser.

Since launch, we’ve been working to address these issues and increase network stability, and we will continue our efforts until our network infrastructure is stabilized to prevent further outages.

Please continue to report bugs, errors, or unexpected behaviors to our support team via our Request Form”

The response has not been positive from fans on social media, where hundreds of comments below the post lament the issues and the quality of the release more generally. The statement did not address non-server complaints that the game was experiencing like sound and framerate issues, missing content, poor aim assist, no inverted flight controls and many other issues. As for the servers, there were initial reports that the game only launched with enough servers for a few hundred players out of 10,000, though perhaps this is part of the “critical error” they reference.

For many players it has been too late, and they’ve refunded. The game had almost 10,000 players at launch, but by the second day, it was down to just under 7,000 players, and judging by the overnight valley, may peak lower than that today as players quickly drop off, whether they are not playing or actively getting refunds.

It’s a strange situation because early previews and reviews of the game were actually okay, but now that players have the game in hand, they’re quite upset, and despite servers now working, its reviews on Steam are only 20% positive. Currently, that makes the Battlefront Collection the ninth lowest-rated release in Steam history.

Will there be a turnaround here? Maybe, but it’s not clear if or when Aspyr will fix the other issues that are not directly related to the servers.
