Forza Motorsport players slam the game’s “horrendous” rear-view mirrors

Forza Motorsport’s rear-view mirrors are under fire after being described as a “pixelated mess” by early access players.

Forza Motorsport is back after six long years, and some players already have their hands on early access before the game officially launches on October 10.

The game has received praise from critics and players alike, with the game’s outstanding new environments, a revamped track list, and popular new progression system all standing out as key features this time around.

Yet, although Turn 10 Studios have seemingly nailed some of the more complex areas of the game, early access players are pointing out problems to do with the most simple of racing features. This time, it’s the rear-view mirrors that are coming under fire from players who are describing them as a “pixelated mess.”

One player shared their frustrations on Reddit in a post titled, “Can we talk about how bad the rearview camera is in this game?” The clip showed what could be seen via the rear-view mirror, and it wasn’t particularly helpful for players.

The video clip, while not the best quality footage, inspired many other Forza Motorsport players to join in the discussion and call out the issue. The top comment in response was simply: “Also on PC it’s horrendous.”

And other players quickly joined in to raise awareness, writing, “The mirrors are a pixelated mess and zoomed in. It’s almost impossible to tell how close a car is behind you.”

Another player wrote, “looks like y’all racing on a milkshake surface,” referencing how the mirror is really only showing the pixelated cars zooming around with a vanilla background and not any of the track features or environment.

Other players are simply taking issue with the way the rear-view mirror can be accessed and used in-game. They’re becoming confused after selecting the rear-view mirror in settings only to find it doesn’t appear in the game due to it not being available in certain camera angles.

While the game doesn’t note it, the rear-view mirror is only accessible when using the Hood and Bumper camera angles. The player can only use the in-car rear-view mirror while driving in cockpit view, but they’re also finding that with default FOV the in-car mirror is hidden to the right side of the cockpit.

Players are hopeful the mirrors will be improved in a future update, writing, “Hopefully gets fixed in the first patch, it’s a pretty big deal if they are serious about safety driving in multiplayer.”

And that’s the key issue right there. Forza Motorsport’s revamped penalty system penalizes players for collisions or track violations. But with the unreliable mirrors and lack of radar or spotter, as featured in games such as Assetto Corsa Competizione, players are finding it hard to keep out of trouble on the track.
